Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Archos Elements 50d Helium — 3.8V Li-ion Replacement Battery (AC50DHE)
This is a 3.8V, 1600mAh Li-ion cell for the Archos Elements 50d Helium and 50d Helium 4G/Dual SIM LTE variants. It replaces the OEM AC50DHE battery when the original cell can no longer hold adequate charge for normal daily use. Voltage and physical dimensions match the original: 72.20 × 55.10 × 4.50mm.
- 50d Helium series compatibility: The standard, Dual SIM, and 4G variants all run the same 3.8V battery rail with an identical footprint and connector pinout, so one cell covers the entire 50d Helium lineup without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the 50d Helium platform. The BMS accepted the charge handshake without fault codes, held voltage flat through mid-discharge, and tripped the low-voltage cutoff cleanly at the expected floor.
- Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: On first use after installation, disable fast charging and run one full discharge-to-charge cycle. This lets the fuel gauge IC map the new cell's discharge curve before the system starts reporting accurate percentages.
Why the 50d Helium reports wrong battery percentage after a cell swap
The Archos 50d Helium uses a coulomb counter in the fuel gauge IC that tracks charge based on the old cell's learned discharge curve. When a new cell goes in, the stored curve no longer matches actual cell behaviour. The OS reads from that stale data, so the percentage shown on screen can be off by 10–20% in either direction. One complete discharge down to auto-shutoff, followed by a full uninterrupted charge to 100%, forces the IC to rebuild its reference curve against the new cell.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the replacement cell
This happens when the cell voltage drops sharply under the combined load of the LTE modem and display — a voltage cliff the fuel gauge IC did not predict. The phone's power management circuit reads the sag as a critical low-voltage condition and cuts out, even though the displayed percentage still looks safe. It is common on the first few cycles with any new cell before the gauge recalibrates. After one or two full discharge-charge cycles, the IC learns the new cell's sag profile and the early shutdowns stop. If they continue past three full cycles, check that the battery connector is fully seated and that flex contact resistance is below 0.5Ω.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Archos 50d Helium won't turn on after sitting in a drawer for months — is the new battery dead?
It is not dead. When a Li-ion cell discharges below roughly 2.5V during long storage, the BMS locks out to prevent damage, and the phone will not respond to a short press of the power button. Plug it into a wall charger — not a PC port — and leave it for 20–30 minutes without attempting to power on. The charge IC will trickle current into the cell until it clears the BMS lockout threshold, after which normal charging resumes.
Fast charging stopped working after fitting the replacement AC50DHE cell — the phone just charges slowly now.
The charge controller on the 50d Helium negotiates charge rate through the BMS on the first cycle. A new cell comes in at a higher internal impedance than a broken-in cell, so the controller steps down to a conservative current until it confirms the cell is safe. Run one full charge to 100% at the slow rate without interrupting it. On the second cycle, the controller re-evaluates impedance and typically restores the higher charge current automatically.
Battery percentage on the 50d Helium is jumping around erratically — sometimes dropping 15% in seconds, then jumping back up.
Erratic percentage jumps are a fuel gauge IC recalibration symptom, not a faulty cell. The coulomb counter is interpolating against a discharge curve built for the old cell, so it loses positional accuracy when load changes sharply. Let the phone discharge fully to auto-shutoff, then charge to 100% in one uninterrupted session. That single full cycle gives the IC enough real data to lock its state-of-charge estimate to the new cell's actual voltage curve, and the jumping stops.
