Fits Xiaomi Redmi 4 and Redmi 4X models, replacing OEM part BN40.
3.85V nominal, 4100mAh capacity — supplies 15.79Wh to the SoC, modem, and display without voltage sag during active calls.
Connector seats flush into the stock battery cavity with standard contact alignment; no mechanical modification required.
We bench-cycled this cell on a Redmi 4X platform — BMS initialized cleanly on first insertion, no fault codes, voltage curve stable under 2A discharge load.
On first charge cycle after installation, disable fast charging in Settings — this allows the fuel gauge IC one complete discharge-charge pass to recalibrate against the new cell's discharge curve before USB-PD requests high current.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Xiaomi Redmi 4X / Hongmi 4 Premium Edition — 3.85V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (BN40)

This 3.85V, 4100mAh lithium-polymer cell (BN40) replaces the factory battery in the Xiaomi Hongmi 4 Premium Edition, Hongmi 4X, and Redmi 4X variants. It fits the dual-SIM TD-LTE and Standard Edition models. Dimensions are 80.40 × 59.40 × 4.70 mm — measure your original before fitting if you are unsure which variant you have.

  • Hongmi 4 and Redmi 4X compatibility: These models share the same battery bay geometry, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. The BN40 part number covers all variants in this cluster — the 4X Standard and Premium differ in RAM and storage, not the power rail.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the Redmi 4X platform. The BMS accepted the cell on first connect, reported voltage correctly at the OS level, and held the charge IC in CV phase without premature cutoff.
  • Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: On first use after installation, disable fast charging for one complete discharge-charge cycle. This lets the fuel gauge IC map its coulomb counter against the new cell's actual discharge curve before high-current charging is introduced into an uncalibrated reference.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the Redmi 4X after a cell swap

This happens when the fuel gauge IC is still calibrated to the old cell's discharge curve. The new cell hits a voltage cliff — typically around 3.55–3.60V under modem or display load — faster than the IC expects. The OS reads 25% remaining but the cell voltage drops below the shutdown threshold under load. One full discharge-to-shutdown followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% resets the coulomb counter and eliminates this behaviour in most cases.

Xiaomi fast charging not activating after BN40 replacement

Xiaomi's proprietary fast charge protocol requires a BMS handshake on the first full cycle before the charge IC increases current above standard 5V input. On a freshly installed cell, the BMS may present elevated impedance until it completes its first calibration pass. If fast charge is not triggering, charge the device at standard rate to 100%, allow it to cool fully, then reconnect the charger — the charge IC should then negotiate the higher voltage and current on the next session. Confirm activation by checking the lock screen charge indicator, which should read "Fast Charging" at a charger output of 9V/2A.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Redmi 4X shuts off at around 25% after fitting the new BN40 — is the battery faulty?

The battery is almost certainly fine. The fuel gauge IC in the Redmi 4X calibrated itself to your old cell's discharge curve, and the new cell hits its low-voltage cutoff at a different point under load — typically around 3.55V when the modem or screen draws peak current. Run one full discharge to automatic shutdown, then charge uninterrupted to 100% without using the phone. That single cycle resets the coulomb counter and the shutdowns stop.

The phone shows 100% but drops to 80% within minutes of unplugging — what is happening?

This is the fuel gauge IC reporting against a stale calibration, not a defective cell. After a cell swap, the IC's stored discharge model no longer matches the actual capacity curve of the new battery. The percentage jumps because the IC corrects itself as soon as real-world current draw exposes the mismatch. Complete two full discharge-charge cycles with fast charging disabled and the readings stabilise — after that the coulomb counter tracks the BN40 curve accurately.

The phone will not power on at all after the replacement battery sat in a drawer for several months — how do I recover it?

Lithium-polymer cells in storage self-discharge over time, and if the BN40 dropped below approximately 2.5V per cell, the BMS enters lockout mode to prevent damage. Plug in a known-good Xiaomi charger and leave it connected for 20–30 minutes without pressing the power button — the charge IC trickle-charges the cell back above the BMS recovery threshold before allowing normal current flow. If the screen remains dark after that period, hold the power button for 15 seconds to force a boot attempt once voltage has recovered above 3.0V.
