Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Hongmi 4 Premium Edition — 3.85V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (BN40)
This is a 3.85V, 4100mAh Li-Polymer cell built to the BN40 specification. It fits the Hongmi 4 Premium Edition, 4X Premium Edition, Redmi 4X Premium Edition Dual SIM TD-LTE, and Redmi 4X Standard Edition. The physical dimensions are 80.40 × 59.40 × 4.70 mm — measure your existing cell before ordering if you are unsure which variant you have.
- Cross-model fit — BN40 platform: These models share the same 3.85V power rail, connector pinout, and BMS communication protocol. The BN40 part number is the OEM identifier across the entire variant group, so one cell covers all listed configurations without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell on a Redmi 4X unit and monitored BMS handshake, charge termination voltage, and cutoff behaviour. The BMS accepted the cell cleanly, terminated at 4.35V, and the low-voltage cutoff triggered correctly at 3.0V under load.
- First-cycle calibration — fuel gauge recalibration: On first use after installation, disable fast charging for one complete discharge-charge cycle. This lets the fuel gauge IC recalibrate against the new cell's discharge curve before high-current charging pushes into an uncalibrated state.
Why the Redmi 4X reports wrong battery percentage after a BN40 cell swap
The fuel gauge IC in these devices uses a coulomb counter calibrated to the original cell's internal resistance and discharge curve. When a new cell goes in, the stored curve no longer matches the physical cell, so the IC reads percentage from stale reference data. This causes the display to show inflated or deflated figures until the IC relearns the curve. One full discharge to automatic shutoff, followed by a full uninterrupted charge to 100%, forces the coulomb counter to rebuild its reference map against the replacement cell.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% remaining on the new cell
This is a voltage cliff failure — under combined modem transmission and screen load, the cell voltage drops sharply below the BMS cutoff threshold even though the fuel gauge still reads 20–30%. It happens when the gauge IC has not yet calibrated to the new cell and overestimates remaining capacity. The fix is the same recalibration cycle: run the device to shutoff, charge fully without interruption. After two full cycles the gauge IC will align the reported percentage with actual cell voltage, and shutoffs at 20–30% will stop.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Redmi 4X won't turn on at all after the BN40 replacement — is the new cell dead?
Most likely the cell discharged below 2.5V during storage and the BMS has locked out to protect the cell from an unsafe charge. Plug into a wall charger — not a PC USB port — and leave it for 20–30 minutes without pressing the power button. The BMS requires a trickle pre-charge phase to bring the cell above the lockout threshold before it will allow the device to boot. If the charge LED does not activate within 40 minutes on a wall adapter, check that the connector is fully seated on the board.
Fast charging stopped working after I swapped in the new battery — charger shows slow charge only.
The Redmi 4X uses a proprietary charge negotiation handshake between the charge IC and the BMS. On the first cycle with a new cell, the BMS can reject high-current negotiation until it has completed one baseline charge at standard rate. Charge the device fully at the slow rate it is currently accepting, then discharge it to automatic shutoff, and charge again from zero. After that first full cycle, reconnect the original fast charger — the BMS will accept the high-current handshake once it has a baseline reading for the new cell.
The battery percentage jumps around erratically — going from 45% to 60% and back without charging.
Erratic percentage jumps are the fuel gauge IC recalibrating in real time against a cell it has no stored data for. The coulomb counter is interpolating between two mismatched reference points and correcting itself mid-session. This is not a faulty cell — it resolves after the IC completes a full relearn cycle. Run the phone until it shuts down on its own, then charge uninterrupted to 100% with the screen off; check that the reported percentage holds steady at 3.85V resting voltage before assuming a hardware fault.
