Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Aspera R5 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (R5-B)
This is a 3.7V 3000mAh Li-ion battery for the Aspera R5 smartphone. It replaces the original cell when capacity has dropped or the battery no longer holds a charge. Voltage and capacity match the R5's charge IC requirements exactly.
- Aspera R5 compatibility: The R5 uses a fixed connector pinout and a 3.7V nominal cell. This battery matches that pinout and voltage rail, so the phone's BMS can communicate charge state and temperature data without throwing a battery fault.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through full charge and discharge sequences on an R5 unit and confirmed BMS handshake, charge termination at 4.2V, and stable voltage through the mid-range discharge curve.
- Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: On first installation, disable fast charging and run one complete discharge down to auto-shutoff, then charge to 100% without interruption. This lets the R5's fuel gauge IC map its coulomb counter to the new cell's actual discharge curve before resuming normal use.
Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the Aspera R5 after a cell swap
The R5's fuel gauge IC stores a discharge curve calibrated to the original cell. A new cell has a different internal resistance profile, so the IC misreads voltage under load — it reports 25% remaining while the cell has already dropped below the modem's minimum voltage threshold. The phone shuts down to protect the radio hardware, not because the battery is faulty. One full uninterrupted discharge-to-charge cycle resets the coulomb counter and eliminates these early shutoffs.
Aspera R5 showing incorrect battery percentage after replacement
After swapping the cell, the fuel gauge IC is still running the old cell's calibration data. Until it relearns the new cell's charge curve, percentage readings will jump — often showing 100% immediately after a short charge, or dropping several percent in seconds under screen load. This is a software calibration issue, not a defective battery. Let the R5 run down to auto-shutoff once, then charge uninterrupted to 100% to force the IC to recalibrate against the new cell.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Aspera R5 won't turn on at all after the replacement battery sat in a drawer for a few months — is the cell dead?
A cell stored at low charge for an extended period can drop below 2.5V, which triggers the BMS into lockout mode to prevent damage. The phone won't power on because the BMS blocks current output until the cell recovers. Connect the R5 to a wall charger — not a PC USB port — and leave it for 30–45 minutes without pressing the power button. If the BMS recovers, the charge LED will activate and the phone will boot normally once the cell reaches approximately 3.0V.
Fast charging stopped working on my Aspera R5 after I put in the new battery — the phone only trickle charges now.
On the first charge cycle after a cell swap, the R5's charge IC often defaults to a reduced constant-current mode because it hasn't yet confirmed the new cell's internal resistance is within fast-charge safe limits. This is a one-cycle handshake behaviour, not a fault with the battery or the charger. Complete one full standard charge to 100%, unplug, and let the phone cool to room temperature. Reconnect to your fast charger — the charge IC should now accept the higher current rate.
My Aspera R5 feels noticeably warm near the battery while charging — is that normal with a new cell?
A new high-impedance cell generates more heat during the initial charge cycles than a worn-in cell does, because the charge IC pushes current into a cell with slightly higher internal resistance until the electrodes stabilise. This is expected on cycles one through three and should reduce noticeably after that. If the phone remains hot to the touch beyond the third cycle, check that the back cover is seated flush — a gap between the cover and the battery can interrupt the thermal path. The warmth should not exceed what you'd call uncomfortable to hold; anything beyond that, remove the phone from charge and let it cool to room temperature before continuing.
