Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Bang & Olufsen BeoPlay H7 / H8 / H9 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (56467 201 012)
This is a 3.7V Li-ion cell rated at 650mAh (2.41Wh), built to replace the original battery in the Bang & Olufsen BeoPlay H7, H8, H9, and H9i wireless headphones. It powers both the audio amplification and Bluetooth radio simultaneously. Fit is confirmed against OEM part numbers 56467 201 012, 1973822, and PLB-103.
- BeoPlay H7 / H8 / H9 / H9i platform compatibility: These models share the same physical cell format, connector pinout, and BMS communication protocol across the range. The 3.7V nominal rail and 39.80 × 35.50 × 6.00mm footprint are consistent across all listed variants, which is why one cell covers the full cluster.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge-discharge cycles under combined Bluetooth and audio load. The BMS accepted charge handshake without error flags, and cell voltage held stable across the draw curve. No thermal events occurred during sustained playback testing.
- First-charge protocol for BeoPlay headsets: Place the headset in the charging cradle immediately after fitting the new cell and allow a complete charge cycle before use. The BeoPlay firmware recalibrates its fuel gauge on the first full cycle — skipping this step causes the charge indicator to read inaccurately for several sessions.
Why the BeoPlay H9i cuts out mid-track on a new battery
The H9i runs active noise cancellation, Bluetooth, and audio amplification simultaneously — three concurrent draws from a single 650mAh cell. If the replacement cell ships at storage voltage (around 3.6–3.7V), the BMS can interpret transient load spikes as an undervoltage event and cut output before the cell is truly depleted. This is not a fault with the battery or the headset. One full charge cycle from the cradle brings the cell to 4.2V and allows the BMS to map its actual capacity, eliminating false cutoffs.
Charging cradle shows full charge but headset dies after short use
This happens when the cell arrives at storage voltage and the cradle's charge controller reads the resting voltage as near-full rather than triggering a proper charge cycle. The headset then runs on a partially charged cell while the indicator shows 100%. Seat the headset in the cradle, wait for the charging LED to cycle through its sequence, then leave it undisturbed for a full charge pass. Once the cell reaches 4.2V and the BMS logs it, the fuel gauge will report accurately from the next use onward.

Frequently Asked Questions
My BeoPlay H8 cuts out mid-call even though the battery shows charged — what's causing it?
The H8 pulls from the cell for both the Bluetooth radio and audio output at the same time, and a brief voltage sag under that combined draw can trip the BMS into a protective cutoff before the cell is actually empty. This is most common in the first few cycles on a new cell, before the BMS has mapped real capacity. Run three full charge-discharge cycles through the cradle and the cutouts should stop. If the cell still sags after five cycles, check that the cradle contacts are clean and making firm contact.
The talk-time on my BeoPlay H9 is noticeably shorter than rated for the first few uses — is the battery faulty?
It is not faulty. Li-ion cells reach full capacity after three to five complete charge-discharge cycles, not on the first use. A new cell typically delivers around 80–85% of rated capacity at first and improves with each cycle. Run the headset down to low-battery warning, then charge fully in the cradle — repeat this three times and rated talk time should be met by cycle four or five.
The headset feels warm near the ear cup during long calls on the BeoPlay H9i — is that a battery issue?
Sustained combined draw from ANC, Bluetooth, and audio amplification generates heat in a compact housing with limited airflow, and the cell itself contributes a small amount of resistive heat under load. Some warmth is normal during calls longer than 90 minutes. If the housing becomes hot to the touch rather than just warm, remove the headset and let it cool for 10 minutes — then check that the replacement cell dimensions match the OEM spec (39.80 × 35.50 × 6.00mm), as an oversized cell seated under pressure will run hotter than normal.
