Why the VIVO I530 reports wrong battery percentage after a cell swap

The VIVO I530 uses a fuel gauge IC that builds a discharge model around the original cell's internal resistance and voltage curve. When a new cell goes in, the stored model no longer matches the actual cell characteristics. The gauge reads state-of-charge against old reference data, so percentages appear frozen, inflated, or erratic. One full discharge to auto-shutdown followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% forces the IC to write a new baseline curve.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the replacement cell

This happens when the modem or display draws a high current burst and the cell voltage dips below the BMS cutoff threshold — even though the gauge still shows charge remaining. A fresh cell with an uncalibrated gauge is especially prone to this on the first few cycles. The BMS is cutting power to protect the cell, not failing. After two full discharge-charge cycles, the gauge IC recalibrates and the shutdowns stop. If they persist beyond three cycles, check that resting cell voltage reads at least 3.6V with a multimeter.

The fuel gauge IC is still using the discharge curve from the old cell, so it misreads the actual state of charge. When the modem or screen pulls a current spike, the real cell voltage drops below the BMS cutoff even though the display shows charge remaining. Run two full discharge-to-shutdown then charge-to-100% cycles without interrupting them. After the second cycle the gauge rewrites its reference data and the random cutoffs stop.

USB fast charging isn't working on the VIVO I530 after I swapped the battery — the phone just trickle charges.

On the first cycle after a cell swap, the charge IC defaults to a low-current profile until it verifies the new cell's impedance is within range. Some VIVO firmware also suspends fast-charge negotiation if the fuel gauge reports an uncalibrated state. Warmth that persists beyond the third cycle points to a charge IC issue on the board, not the cell.
