Fits Black&Decker DV9610N, WD9610, DV9610AN, DV9610ECN handheld vacuums; replaces OEM part 90566793.
9.6V, 3000mAh Ni-MH chemistry delivers full motor power for sustained suction on carpet and hard floors.
Connector seats vertically into the DV9610N battery slot with a single locking tab on the left side.
We bench-tested this cell on the DV9610N motor load; BMS accepts charge immediately with no cutoff lag under normal filter conditions.
Do not leave this battery on the charging dock continuously — Ni-MH packs on permanent dock charge fade faster; charge to full and remove.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Black&Decker DV9610N Series — 9.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (90566793)

This is a 9.6V, 3000mAh Ni-MH battery for the Black&Decker DV9610N cordless handheld vacuum and compatible models including the WD9610, DV9610AN, and DV9610ECN. It replaces OEM part number 90566793. When the original cell loses charge capacity, this swap restores full motor power without replacing the whole unit.

  • DV9610 and WD9610 platform fit: These models share the same 9.6V cell format, connector pinout, and charging circuit. One battery SKU covers the full range without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this battery through charge and discharge cycles on the DV9610 platform. The BMS held cutoff correctly at low voltage, and the charger handshake completed without fault codes.
  • Dock charging behaviour on this vacuum: Do not leave the vacuum sitting on the charging dock continuously. These Ni-MH cells develop capacity fade significantly faster under constant trickle charge than cells charged only when depleted. Charge to full, then remove from the dock.

Suction dropping before the battery indicator reaches low

On the DV9610, the motor draws more current when airflow is restricted — a clogged filter forces the motor to work harder and voltage sags early. The battery's BMS reads that voltage sag as low charge and throttles output before the cell is actually depleted. Clean or replace the filter first, then retest. If suction stays weak with a clean filter and a fully charged replacement battery, the motor brushes may be worn.

Motor cuts out mid-use then recovers after a pause

This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a dead battery. When the vacuum picks up a blockage or runs against dense carpet pile, current draw spikes past the BMS threshold and the circuit opens to protect the cells. The BMS resets after a short cooling period, which is why power comes back without touching the charger. Clear any blockage, check the filter for restriction, and confirm the battery rests at or above 9.6V open-circuit before resuming use.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Black&Decker DV9610N runs for a short time then the motor cuts out — is the new battery faulty?

Not necessarily. When the filter is partially blocked, the motor pulls more current than rated to maintain suction, and the BMS trips to protect the cells. Power returns after a short pause because the BMS resets once current demand drops. Clean the filter thoroughly, then retest — if the cutout stops, the battery is fine. Check open-circuit voltage after a full charge; it should read at or above 9.6V.

The vacuum loses suction noticeably before the battery indicator shows low — why does this happen?

A restricted filter forces the motor to draw harder to move air, which causes voltage to sag under load earlier than it should. The battery's BMS interprets that sag as low charge and reduces output even though the cell still has capacity. This is a load-response issue, not a battery fault. Replace or clean the filter and the early suction drop should resolve.

My DV9610N battery seems to hold less charge each month even though I barely use the vacuum — what's causing the fade?

Continuous dock charging is the most common cause of capacity fade in Ni-MH handheld vacuums. Trickle current on a full cell gradually degrades the active material in the cells, even when the vacuum is idle. Remove the vacuum from the dock once charging is complete and only return it when the battery needs topping up. Storing a partially discharged Ni-MH cell off the dock is far less damaging than leaving it on continuous charge.
