Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Compaq DESKPRO 5233MX — 3.6V Li-MnO2 Replacement Battery
This is a 3.6V, 2700mAh lithium manganese dioxide cell that replaces the CMOS backup battery on the Compaq DESKPRO 5233MX motherboard. It holds system time, date, and BIOS configuration when the machine is off or unplugged. When this cell depletes, the board loses its settings on every power cycle.
- DESKPRO 5233MX motherboard fit: The 5233MX uses a barrel-style 3.6V Li-MnO2 cell to power the RTC and CMOS SRAM. Voltage, physical dimensions (60.55 × 18.50 × 18.35mm), and connector type must all match — a standard CR2032 coin cell will not substitute here.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell against a 3.6V RTC circuit and confirmed stable float voltage with no BMS-induced drop. Open-circuit voltage held within spec across the full test window.
- Swap timing on the DESKPRO 5233MX: Replace this cell with the machine powered on where possible. Removing the battery while the board is completely de-energised clears CMOS — you will need to re-enter BIOS settings manually on next boot.
Why the DESKPRO 5233MX loses date and BIOS settings after every shutdown
The RTC and CMOS SRAM on this board draw continuous low current from the backup cell whenever mains power is absent. Once the cell drops below roughly 3.0V, retention fails and the board resets to factory defaults on each power cycle. A depleted cell often still reads a surface voltage above 3.0V under no load — that reading is misleading. Under the small but constant RTC draw, the cell collapses and CMOS clears. Replacing the cell is the only fix; reseating or cleaning the holder changes nothing if the cell itself is exhausted.
New cell installed but DESKPRO 5233MX still showing wrong date and time
A fresh Li-MnO2 cell ships at storage voltage, which can sit slightly below the board's expected 3.6V until it equilibrates under light load. If the date and time are still wrong after fitting the new cell, the CMOS was cleared during the swap and the RTC has no stored values to recover. Boot into BIOS setup, set the correct date and time manually, and save before exiting. Confirm the board holds those values through a full power-off cycle — if it does, the new cell is seated and functioning correctly.

Frequently Asked Questions
I replaced the battery in my DESKPRO 5233MX but the BIOS still resets every time I unplug it — did I get a dead cell?
Probably not a dead cell. If the battery was removed while the machine was fully powered off, the CMOS cleared during the swap and the board has no stored settings to retain — even with a good new cell fitted. Boot into BIOS, re-enter your settings, save, and power the machine off with the new cell in place. If the settings survive that cycle, the cell is working.
My DESKPRO 5233MX new battery reads below 3.6V on a multimeter — is it faulty?
Li-MnO2 cells ship at a reduced storage voltage and take a few hours to rise to full rated voltage once connected to the board's float circuit. An open-circuit reading of 3.4–3.5V immediately after fitting is normal. Leave the machine powered on for a couple of hours, then re-measure — it should settle at or very close to 3.6V. If it remains below 3.2V after several hours on the board, the cell is suspect and should be swapped.
The DESKPRO 5233MX battery I fitted six months ago is already depleted — the original lasted years. Why?
Li-MnO2 self-discharge roughly doubles for every 10°C rise above room temperature. If the machine runs in a warm enclosure or a poorly ventilated cabinet, the cell drains significantly faster than the datasheet suggests. Check the internal case temperature near the motherboard battery holder — if it regularly exceeds 40°C, enclosure ventilation is the root cause, not the cell itself. Improving airflow around the board is the fix, not sourcing a different battery.
