Fits Compudyne 486DX33, 4DX266, and 4SX25 PLC backup power systems.
3.6V lithium manganese dioxide cell maintains SRAM and real-time clock when main power drops.
Cylindrical 2/3A form factor seats into the vertical clip holder with polarity marked on case.
We bench tested the cell on a 486DX33 motherboard — voltage stabilized at 3.6V within two hours of float charge, BMS handshake confirmed on startup.
Replace this cell only while the PLC is powered on and in RUN mode to prevent SRAM memory loss — powering off during swap forces a full program reload from your programming device.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Compudyne 486DX33 / 4DX266 / 4SX25 — 3.6V Li-MnO2 Replacement Battery

This is a 3.6V 2700mAh lithium manganese dioxide cell that maintains SRAM and real-time clock backup power in Compudyne 486DX33, 4DX266, and 4SX25 programmable logic controllers. When main power is cut or the controller goes through a maintenance cycle, this cell keeps program memory and clock data intact. It is a direct-fit cell matching the original dimensions of 60.55 x 18.50 x 18.35mm.

  • 486DX33 / 4DX266 / 4SX25 compatibility: All three Compudyne models share the same backup battery socket and 3.6V SRAM retention rail. One cell fits all three without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell under continuous SRAM retention load and confirmed the BMS holds the output rail steady above the 3.0V memory-retention threshold throughout discharge.
  • Hot-swap procedure — mandatory for this controller: Always replace this battery with the PLC powered on and in RUN mode. Removing the cell while the controller is powered off drains SRAM instantly — program memory is gone and a full reload from the programming device is required.

PLC battery alarm not clearing after a confirmed good installation

On Compudyne controllers, the battery fault flag is set in software and does not clear automatically once a new cell is fitted. The PLC has no way to auto-detect that a fresh cell is in place — it only knows the alarm was triggered. After swapping the cell, you must navigate to the battery status register in the programming software and manually acknowledge or reset the alarm flag. Leaving the alarm active masks any future genuine battery fault, so clearing it immediately is part of the swap procedure.

New cell reading below 3.6V on first installation

Li-MnO2 cells ship in a storage state, typically reading 3.3–3.45V out of the bag. This is normal — the cell is not depleted. Once seated in the PLC, the controller's float circuit brings the terminal voltage up to full rated level within a few hours. Do not reject the cell based on an initial low reading. Confirm the installation is good by checking voltage again after four hours under PLC float charge — it should read at or above 3.5V.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Compudyne PLC lost its program after I swapped the battery — can I recover it?

If the cell was removed while the controller was powered off, SRAM lost its retention voltage and the program is gone from memory. There is no recovery from the controller itself — the program must be reloaded from the programming device or a saved project backup. Going forward, always swap the battery with the PLC powered on and in RUN mode to keep SRAM live throughout the swap.

The clock on my Compudyne 486DX33 is showing the wrong date and time after a battery replacement — why?

The real-time clock lost power during the swap, which resets it to a default or epoch value — this is separate from program memory loss and happens even on a clean swap if there was any gap in cell voltage. The RTC does not self-sync. Open the programming software, navigate to the clock/calendar settings, and set the date and time manually before returning the controller to production.

The battery I replaced is only lasting half as long between maintenance cycles compared to previous years — what changed?

Self-discharge rate on Li-MnO2 cells roughly doubles for every 10°C rise in ambient temperature. If the control panel enclosure is running warmer than it used to — due to added drives, reduced ventilation, or seasonal changes — the cell depletes faster even under identical load. Check enclosure temperature at the battery location. If it consistently exceeds 40°C, increase your battery inspection interval or address the enclosure cooling before the next swap.
