Fits Coolpad Surf Wifi Hotspot 4G, replaces OEM battery CPLD-429.
Voltage 3.8V, capacity 2500mAh — delivers full power to cellular modem and WiFi radio simultaneously.
Connector type proprietary Coolpad; slides into vertical slot with alignment tab facing left.
Bench testing showed clean BMS handshake on first insertion; no fault codes during 4G modem cycling.
Keep the hotspot in a well-ventilated location during extended sessions — the cellular radio operates at maximum output power when devices are far away, generating significant heat that stresses the battery.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Coolpad Surf WiFi Hotspot 4G / CP332A — 3.8V Li-ion Replacement Battery (CPLD-429)

This is a 3.8V, 2500mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the Coolpad Surf WiFi Hotspot 4G and CP332A. It replaces OEM part CPLD-429 and slots directly into the battery compartment. Capacity is rated at 9.5Wh.

  • Surf 4G and CP332A compatibility: Both models share the same PCB voltage rail, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — one battery covers both. The CPLD-429 part number spans the full run of these devices.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this battery on the Surf 4G with five simultaneous connected clients and a sustained LTE data session. The BMS held the discharge curve flat through the mid-range and triggered low-voltage cutoff cleanly at the correct threshold — no erratic shutdowns or false readings on the charge indicator.
  • Ventilation during extended hotspot sessions: Keep the Surf 4G on a hard, open surface when running extended sessions. When connected clients are at the edge of WiFi range, the radio steps up to full output power. That heat transfers directly into the battery cavity. A blocked vent or pocket carry shortens cell life faster than discharge cycles alone.

Why the Surf 4G drops all connected clients mid-session

The Surf 4G runs two radios simultaneously — the LTE modem and the 2.4GHz WiFi chip. At maximum client load, the combined current draw creates brief voltage sag on the battery. If an aged or partially charged cell can't hold the rail above the BMS trip threshold, the device shuts down rather than browning out. A new cell with full charge restores the headroom the BMS needs. If drop-outs persist with a new battery, check the number of connected clients and move the device closer to the cellular tower to reduce modem transmit power.

Surf 4G won't power on after sitting unused for several weeks

Li-ion cells self-discharge during storage. If the Surf 4G sat for more than a few weeks with a degraded original battery, the cell may have dropped below the minimum boot voltage — typically around 3.0V per cell. The device won't respond to the power button because the BMS blocks output to protect the cell. Plug in the charger and leave it for at least 20–30 minutes before attempting to power on. If the charge LED doesn't illuminate at all, the original battery is likely below recovery threshold and needs replacement.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Coolpad Surf 4G keeps disconnecting everyone connected to it even though the battery shows charged — what's causing that?

This is a voltage sag issue, not a capacity issue. When the modem and WiFi radio both run at high load — multiple clients, poor LTE signal — the combined draw pulls the battery voltage down in short spikes. An aged cell can't hold the rail steady, and the BMS trips a shutdown to protect the circuit. A new CPLD-429 cell restores the current headroom the BMS requires. If drop-outs still happen, reduce connected clients or move the device to a stronger signal area to lower modem transmit power.

The Surf 4G battery is draining much faster than it used to even with only two devices connected — is that a battery problem or a network problem?

It can be both, but the most overlooked cause is poor cellular signal. When the Surf 4G is far from a tower or indoors with weak signal, the LTE modem runs at maximum transmit power continuously — that alone can more than double the current draw compared to a strong-signal environment. An original battery with degraded capacity makes this worse because usable capacity shrinks while draw stays the same. Replace the CPLD-429 battery first, then test in a location with strong LTE signal to establish a fair baseline for drain rate.

The Surf 4G gets noticeably warm during long sessions and then shuts off — is that a battery fault?

Heat-triggered shutdown on the Surf 4G usually comes from the cellular radio, not a battery fault on its own. The LTE modem generates significant heat at sustained output, and that heat transfers into the battery compartment. If the battery cell temperature rises past the BMS thermal threshold, the BMS cuts output to prevent cell damage — this looks identical to a low-battery shutdown. Keep the device on an open hard surface during long sessions and avoid carrying it in a pocket or bag while active. If shutdowns only happen under heat and not when the device runs cool, the existing cell's thermal limits are the constraint — a fresh CPLD-429 cell has tighter tolerances and a wider thermal margin.
