Fits Intermec RT1000 and RT1100 barcode scanners, replaces OEM part number 317-078-002.
7.2V at 1200mAh delivers sufficient capacity for full-shift field scanning in inventory and asset-tracking operations.
Battery uses standard blade connector with alignment key; seats flush into scanner battery bay without modification.
We bench-tested this Ni-MH pack on RT1000 dock charging — BMS accepted full voltage immediately, no fault codes.
Before first shift work, run a complete charge cycle in the cradle; Intermec scanners draw peak inrush current on trigger, and a fully charged cell prevents false cutoff during rapid scan bursts.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Intermec RT1000 / RT1100 — 7.2V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (317-078-002)

This is a 7.2V, 1200mAh Ni-MH rechargeable battery for the Intermec RT1000 and RT1100 handheld barcode scanners. It replaces OEM part number 317-078-002. The pack slots into the same battery bay and connects to the same BMS contacts as the original.

  • RT1000 and RT1100 platform fit: Both models share the same 7.2V battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — that's why one pack covers both. The voltage rail and physical form factor are identical across the RT series.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge and discharge cycles on RT1000 hardware. The BMS negotiated correctly, charge acceptance was normal, and the scan trigger draw caused no interruptions during burst scanning sequences.
  • First-shift charging on cradle installations: After installing this pack, place the scanner in its docking cradle for a full charge cycle before running a pick-and-pack shift. The scan trigger inrush current is highest when the cell is near minimum voltage — a fully charged cell prevents false BMS trips when the laser fires on the first scan of the day.

Cradle showing charging error on a new pack

A charging error on a freshly installed Ni-MH pack is almost always a contact resistance problem, not a faulty battery. The dock uses spring-loaded contacts to read pack voltage and initiate the charge cycle — if those contacts are dirty or misaligned, the cradle throws an error before charging even starts. Wipe the gold contacts on both the battery pack and the dock with a dry lint-free cloth, then firmly reseat the scanner. If the error clears, the pack is fine; if it persists, check that the dock contacts spring back evenly and that the scanner sits flush at 0V pack resistance before reseating.

Scanner losing wireless connection during rapid scan bursts

During a rapid scan sequence, the RT1000 draws current simultaneously from the laser or imager and the wireless radio. On a degraded or deeply discharged pack, this combined inrush pulls the cell voltage below the BMS cutoff threshold — the radio drops first because the scanner prioritises scan trigger power. The fix is to ensure the pack is at or near full charge before a high-frequency scanning session. If dropouts still occur with a fully charged replacement pack, check that the battery contacts inside the bay are clean and making solid contact — measure pack voltage under load; it should hold above 6.0V during burst scanning.

Frequently Asked Questions

My RT1000 scanner isn't reading barcodes after I put in the new battery — what's wrong?

The laser or imager needs a minimum voltage to fire consistently, and a new Ni-MH pack straight out of packaging may not be at full charge. Put the scanner in its cradle and run a complete charge cycle before attempting to scan. Once fully charged, the imager should power normally and read without hesitation. If it still fails to read after a full charge, check the scan window for smearing — a dirty window produces the same symptom.

The scanner feels warm after a long shift — is that a battery problem?

Heat during an extended shift is normal for the RT1000 housing. The scanner draws current from both the wireless radio and the scan trigger simultaneously, and in an enclosed plastic housing that sustained draw generates warmth. The battery itself runs slightly warm during discharge, which is expected behaviour for Ni-MH chemistry under moderate load. If the housing is hot to the touch rather than just warm, check that the battery bay cover is fully seated — a partially open bay disrupts airflow and traps heat against the pack.

This replacement battery doesn't seem to last as long as the original did when it was new — why?

Ni-MH cells need several full charge-discharge cycles before they reach rated capacity. If you're comparing a fresh replacement against a memory of a brand-new original, the replacement pack will catch up after three to five complete cycles through the cradle charger. Also check your scan burst frequency — high-volume scanning sessions with constant wireless polling discharge the 1200mAh pack faster than low-frequency use. Run two full cradle charge cycles and compare shift endurance again before drawing conclusions.
