Fits Dolphin CT40 and CT40XP handheld scanners; replaces OEM part numbers 318-055-001, 318-055-002, and CT50-BTSC battery packs.
This 3.8V lithium-ion cell holds 4000mAh capacity, delivering sustained power through extended pick-and-pack shifts and rapid barcode scan bursts.
Connector seats into the scanner's battery bay with a single locking tab on the right side; orientation is keyed and cannot be reversed.
We ran load tests on a CT40XP cradle charger; the BMS accepted dock voltage cleanly and reported full charge in standard cycle with no fault flags.
Before deploying in the field, insert the pack into the cradle for one complete charge cycle — scan trigger inrush current is highest at minimum voltage and a pre-charged cell prevents false BMS shutdowns during the first shift.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Dolphin CT40 / CT40XP — 3.8V Li-ion Replacement Battery (318-055-001)

This 3.8V, 4000mAh (15.2Wh) lithium-ion battery is a direct replacement for the Dolphin CT40 and CT40XP rugged handheld mobile computers. It fits the same battery bay and uses the same connector as the original pack. Swap it in when the original cell no longer holds a charge through a full warehouse shift.

  • CT40 and CT40XP compatibility: Both devices share the same 3.8V battery bay, BMS handshake protocol, and physical connector — OEM part numbers 318-055-001, 318-055-002, and CT50-BTSC all cross-reference to this cell configuration.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through a full charge-discharge cycle on the CT40 platform. The onboard BMS accepted the cell without error flags, and charge termination triggered correctly at capacity.
  • First-shift cradle protocol: Place the CT40 in its charging cradle for a complete charge cycle before using it in pick-and-pack. Scan trigger inrush current spikes highest when the cell is near minimum — a fully charged pack prevents false BMS trips on the opening shift.

Cradle showing a charging error on a new pack

The CT40 cradle communicates with the battery over pogo-pin contacts on the base of the device. If those contacts have oxidation or debris from warehouse use, the dock reads an incomplete handshake and throws a charging error — even with a brand-new cell installed. Remove the device from the cradle, wipe the gold contacts on both the battery door and the dock with a dry lint-free cloth, then reseat firmly. If the error clears, the contact surface was the issue, not the battery.

Scanner dropping wireless connection during rapid scan bursts

The CT40 runs its 802.11 radio and the imager simultaneously during high-frequency scan sequences. The combined draw from both subsystems causes a voltage sag on a degraded or low cell — the radio stack loses enough rail voltage to drop its association before the BMS triggers a hard cutoff. If the scanner reconnects immediately after the burst slows, the issue is cell voltage sag rather than a radio fault. Charge the replacement pack fully before the shift and confirm the battery indicator reads 100% before starting high-frequency scan work.

Frequently Asked Questions

The CT40 scanner won't read barcodes after I swapped the battery — the screen is on but the trigger does nothing

The imager module needs a minimum voltage threshold to fire — if the replacement pack shipped partially discharged, the cell may be too low to power the laser or imager even though the display stays on. Put the unit in the cradle and charge it fully before attempting any scans. Once at 100%, the trigger should respond normally on the first pull.

My CT40 feels warm after a long scan shift — is that a problem with the new battery?

Sustained scanning plus continuous 802.11 polling generates real heat inside the CT40's enclosed housing, and a new cell under full load will run warmer than an aged, lower-capacity pack. This is normal operating behaviour rather than a fault. If the housing becomes too hot to hold comfortably or the device shuts itself down, that indicates the BMS has triggered a thermal cutoff — let the unit cool for 10 minutes at rest, then power it back on.

The replacement battery isn't lasting as long per shift as the old one did at its best — what's wrong?

A new lithium-ion cell reaches stable capacity after three to five full charge-discharge cycles — early cycles often run short while the cell conditions. Track shift endurance over the first week before drawing conclusions about the pack's capacity. Also check that the CT40's wireless polling interval and screen timeout are set to normal operational defaults, as aggressive radio polling and a permanently lit display cut measurable time from any cell, old or new.
