Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Emporia Elson EL370 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BTY26156/ELSON/STD)

This is a 3.7V, 550mAh Li-ion battery for the Emporia Elson EL370 mobile phone. It replaces the original cell when the phone no longer holds a charge or fails to power on. Voltage and capacity match the OEM specification exactly.

  • EL370 cell format: The EL370 uses a compact 43.97 × 41.95 × 3.98mm cell with a low 550mAh capacity typical of basic mobile handsets. The BMS on this phone monitors cell voltage directly — a cell outside the expected voltage window will trigger a low-battery shutdown even if the phone shows charge remaining.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through full charge and discharge cycles on the EL370 platform. The BMS accepted the cell without fault codes, and the charge IC brought the cell to 4.2V at termination as expected.
  • Fuel gauge recalibration on first cycle: On first use after installation, disable fast charging if the option is available, then run one complete discharge down to automatic shutdown followed by a full charge. This lets the phone's fuel gauge IC map its coulomb counter against the new cell's actual discharge curve before it begins reporting percentages to the OS.

Why the EL370 reports wrong battery percentage after a cell swap

The EL370's fuel gauge IC builds its percentage model from the discharge curve of the original cell. When a new cell goes in, the IC's stored curve no longer matches reality. The phone reads voltage and estimates capacity based on old data, so the percentage displayed can be ten to twenty points off. One full discharge-to-shutdown followed by a complete charge cycle forces the IC to recalibrate against the new cell and corrects the reported percentage.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the replacement cell

This happens when the cell voltage drops below the BMS cutoff threshold under load — typically during a call or screen-on activity — while the fuel gauge still shows charge remaining. The gauge is reading an uncalibrated curve and overestimates remaining capacity. The BMS cuts power at the real voltage floor, which can be 3.0–3.2V per cell, regardless of what percentage the OS displays. Run one full discharge cycle to let the fuel gauge resync, and the shutdown point will move back to the correct low-percentage range.

Frequently Asked Questions

The EL370 won't turn on at all after the replacement battery sat in a drawer for a few months — is it dead?

Most likely the cell dropped below 2.5V in storage and the BMS has locked out to prevent damage. Plug the phone into a charger and leave it for 20–30 minutes without pressing the power button — the charge IC needs time to trickle current into the cell before the BMS will release its lockout. If the phone still shows nothing after 30 minutes, try a different charging cable and confirm the charger outputs at least 5V 500mA before assuming the cell is faulty.

The phone feels warm near the battery compartment while charging — is that normal with the new cell?

Some warmth is expected on the first few charge cycles with a new cell. A fresh cell has slightly higher internal impedance than a broken-in one, so the charge IC dissipates a little more energy as heat until the cell conditions. If the phone becomes uncomfortable to hold or the warmth continues past the third full charge cycle, check that the charger voltage does not exceed 5V — an out-of-spec charger pushes excess voltage into the charge IC and generates sustained heat.

After fitting the new battery, the percentage jumps around erratically — it went from 45% to 12% in two minutes without heavy use.

The fuel gauge IC is recalibrating its coulomb counter against the new cell's discharge curve and has not yet built a stable model. The jumping will reduce after one or two full cycles. To speed up the process, run the phone down to automatic shutdown from a full charge without interrupting — do not top up partway through — then charge uninterrupted to 100% and let the gauge lock onto the new curve.
