Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Emporia Mobistel EL600 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BTY26172)

This is a 3.7V 800mAh Li-ion cell for the Mobistel EL600 and EL600 Dual. It replaces part number BTY26172 when the original cell no longer holds a charge or fails to power the phone. At 2.96Wh, capacity matches the factory specification for both EL600 variants.

  • EL600 and EL600 Dual compatibility: Both handsets share the same battery bay dimensions and connector pinout. The BTY26172 cell fits either variant without modification — the BMS handshake and voltage rail are identical across the two.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through a full discharge and charge sequence on the EL600 platform. The BMS held the charge cutoff at 4.2V and the low-voltage cutoff triggered cleanly before cell damage could occur.
  • Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: After fitting, disable any fast-charge option and run one complete discharge-to-charge cycle. The EL600's fuel gauge IC calibrates its coulomb counter against the new cell's discharge curve — skipping this step causes the percentage readout to drift against the actual cell state.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the Mobistel EL600

This is a voltage cliff issue, not a capacity fault. When the screen backlight and baseband radio draw current simultaneously, a weakened or freshly installed cell can drop below the BMS cutoff voltage under load even though the fuel gauge still reads 20–30%. The phone shuts down because the instantaneous voltage sag breaches the cutoff threshold, not because stored charge is exhausted. One full discharge cycle lets the fuel gauge IC map the new cell's actual voltage curve so the reported percentage tracks real capacity.

Phone won't power on after the battery sat in storage

Li-ion cells that self-discharge below approximately 2.5V per cell trigger a BMS lockout — the protection circuit opens and blocks current flow to prevent charging a dangerously depleted cell. The phone shows nothing when you press the power button, which looks like a dead cell but is a recoverable state. Connect the EL600 to a charger and leave it for 15–20 minutes without pressing anything — the charge IC delivers a low trickle current that brings the cell back above the BMS re-enable threshold. Once voltage reaches around 3.0V, the BMS closes the circuit and normal charging resumes.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Mobistel EL600 percentage jumps around after I put the new battery in — is something wrong with the replacement cell?

Nothing is wrong with the cell itself. The fuel gauge IC on the EL600 was calibrated to the discharge curve of the original battery, and the new BTY26172 cell has a slightly different curve. The coulomb counter recalibrates itself after one complete discharge from 100% down to auto-shutoff, then a full uninterrupted charge. Run that single cycle and the percentage readout stabilises.

The EL600 feels warm near the battery compartment while charging the new cell — should I be concerned?

Mild warmth on the first few charge cycles is normal. A new cell starts with slightly higher internal impedance than a broken-in one, so the charge IC dissipates a little more energy as heat while current flows into it. If the phone becomes hot to the touch or charging stops before 100%, that points to a charge IC fault unrelated to the cell. For a normal warm sensation that fades after two or three cycles, no action is needed — internal impedance drops as the cell conditions.

My Mobistel EL600 won't accept fast charging after I replaced the battery — it only charges slowly now.

On the first cycle after a cell swap, the BMS in a replacement Li-ion battery defaults to a conservative charge acceptance profile until the fuel gauge IC has completed one calibration pass. The EL600 charge controller negotiates current based on BMS state — if the BMS hasn't confirmed cell health yet, it caps input current. Complete one full slow charge from flat to 100% without interrupting it, and the BMS opens up to its normal charge current on the next cycle.
