Fits Explorer QRZ-1 two-way radio; replaces OEM battery for this portable radio platform.
7.4V and 2000mAh capacity deliver sustained transmit power across shift lengths without sag.
Connector type matches QRZ-1 dock slot; seating is firm with no play once inserted.
We ran full charge cycles on a QRZ-1 test unit; BMS accepted handshake on first insertion.
If the charger dock shows fault LED on first insertion, remove the battery, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly — the Explorer platform requires a clean contact cycle to accept the new BMS handshake before charging begins.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Explorer QRZ-1 — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery

This is a 7.4V, 2000mAh (14.8Wh) Li-ion battery for the Explorer QRZ-1 two-way radio. It replaces the original pack on a like-for-like voltage and form factor basis. The cell stack dimensions — 103.80 x 53.30 x 21.90mm — match the OEM battery bay directly.

  • QRZ-1 platform fit: The QRZ-1 runs a 7.4V nominal rail. This pack matches that rail and the physical connector orientation so the radio's power circuit sees no mismatch on boot.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through transmit loads typical of handheld radio use. The BMS held the output rail stable under sustained PTT draw and tripped correctly at the low-voltage cutoff threshold — no false lockout on first discharge.
  • First insertion contact check: If the charger shows a fault LED on first insertion, remove the pack, wipe the contact pads with a dry cloth, and reseat it firmly. The QRZ-1 dock requires a clean contact cycle to complete the BMS handshake before charging begins.

Why the QRZ-1 bar indicator reads low on a new pack

Li-ion cells ship at storage voltage — typically 3.6–3.7V per cell, not full charge. The QRZ-1 reads voltage thresholds to display its bar indicator, so a new pack fresh out of packaging will often show one or two bars below full. This is not a capacity fault. Run one full charge cycle through the dock before treating the bar reading as accurate.

QRZ-1 drops TX power mid-shift after battery swap

Sustained RF transmission pulls significantly more current than standby or receive modes. If the cell impedance is elevated — common in a new pack that hasn't been cycled — voltage sags under that load and the radio's firmware steps down transmit power to stay within its operating window. This is not a radio fault. Charge the pack fully, run two or three complete discharge-recharge cycles, and the impedance will settle. Check that resting voltage sits at or above 8.0V before the next shift.

Frequently Asked Questions

My QRZ-1 cuts out completely the moment I press PTT — why does a brand new battery do this?

A sharp PTT keypress draws a high current spike that the BMS on a new, uncycled pack can misread as an overcurrent event, triggering a protective cutoff. The radio goes dead for a second or two, then recovers. This clears after one or two full charge-discharge cycles, which lets the BMS learn the normal transmit current signature. Charge fully, then key up briefly several times before committing the radio to field use.

The charger dock blinks a fault LED and never switches to charging — the battery is seated correctly.

A new Li-ion pack stored below the dock's acceptance voltage threshold will cause this. The dock expects to see at least a minimum cell voltage before it begins the charge sequence — if the pack sat in a warehouse for months, it may have self-discharged past that floor. Remove the battery, wait 30 seconds, and reseat it firmly to give the dock a fresh handshake attempt. If the fault LED persists through three reseating attempts, the cells need a recovery charge — check that the terminal voltage reads at least 6.0V with a multimeter before retrying.

The radio works fine on receive but the signal sounds broken or weak to the person I'm calling — battery-related?

Yes. Voltage sag under transmit load causes the QRZ-1 to step down RF output, which the receiving end hears as a weak or broken signal even though your radio appears functional. This happens when cell impedance is high — typical of a new or cold pack. Fully charge the battery, allow it to reach ambient temperature if it has been stored cold, and check that resting voltage is at or above 8.0V before transmitting.
