Fits Baofeng UV-13 Pro, MU-5 MURS, UV-88, RT-85, and three additional models; replaces OEM part number BL-13UV.
7.4V Li-ion at 2000mAh capacity delivers standard runtime across VHF/UHF transmission cycles without sag during sustained PTT operation.
Connector slides into the radio's battery slot with a single locking tab on the left side; orientation is fixed by the contact layout.
We ran the pack through five charge cycles at room temperature on a standard Baofeng desk charger; BMS accepted handshake without fault indication and held voltage stable under simulated transmit load.
If the charger dock shows a red fault LED on first insertion, remove the battery, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly—the Baofeng platform requires a clean contact cycle to accept the new BMS before charging begins.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Baofeng UV-13 Pro / UV-88 / RT-85 — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BL-13UV)

The BL-13UV is a 7.4V, 2000mAh Li-ion pack for the Baofeng UV-13 Pro and compatible handhelds including the MU-5 MURS, UV-88, and RT-85. It uses the same connector footprint and BMS voltage thresholds as the original pack. Swap it into the same battery bay — no modifications needed.

  • UV-13 Pro platform compatibility: The UV-13 Pro, UV-88, and RT-85 all share the BL-13UV form factor because they run the same 7.4V nominal voltage rail and use an identical gold-contact strip for BMS communication with the charger dock. A battery that passes handshake on one of these radios will pass on the others.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through repeated PTT transmit bursts to confirm the BMS handles the current spike without tripping into overcurrent lockout. Voltage held stable across the transmit window, and the protection circuit reset cleanly between cycles.
  • First-insertion contact check: If the charger dock shows a fault LED on first seating, pull the battery, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. The dock requires a clean contact cycle to accept the new BMS handshake before it begins charging — this is specific to the UV-13 Pro's dock logic, not a cell defect.

Why the UV-13 Pro drops to reduced TX power mid-shift on a fresh BL-13UV

New Li-ion cells ship at storage voltage — typically around 3.6–3.7V per cell, not the 4.2V full-charge ceiling. Under sustained RF output, the radio's power amplifier draws peak current and the BMS reads the resulting voltage sag as a low-battery condition. The radio responds by stepping down transmit power to protect the pack. A full charge cycle before the first shift eliminates this behaviour entirely.

Bar indicator stuck on two bars even after a full charge

The UV-13 Pro uses a simple voltage-threshold bar display — it reads pack voltage directly and maps it to bar segments, with no fuel gauge chip behind it. A new cell that hasn't completed its first full cycle can rest at a voltage that the radio maps to two bars rather than four. Run the pack through one full charge to 8.4V, then discharge under normal use, and repeat once. After that conditioning cycle, the bar display will reflect actual charge state accurately.

Frequently Asked Questions

My UV-13 Pro cuts out completely when I press PTT — is the BL-13UV tripping on transmit current?

Yes, this is a BMS overcurrent response to the transmit spike. New packs can trip on the first few aggressive PTT presses if the cells haven't been through a full charge cycle yet. Charge the battery fully to 8.4V before use — a conditioned cell handles the transmit surge without the BMS cutting out.

The charger dock LED blinks red and never moves to green after I insert the new BL-13UV — what's wrong?

The dock is failing the BMS handshake, usually because the gold contact strip isn't making clean contact. Remove the battery, wipe the contacts on both the battery and the dock cradle with a dry cloth, then reseat the pack with firm downward pressure until it clicks. If the dock accepts it, the LED will shift to solid red charge mode within a few seconds.

After sitting in a drawer for a few weeks, the UV-13 Pro shows low battery immediately on power-up — is the pack dead?

It's not dead — it's below the recovery threshold from self-discharge during storage. Li-ion cells lose roughly 2–3% charge per month, and a pack that ships at storage voltage and then sits longer can drop below the radio's low-battery cutoff point. Place it on the charger and leave it for a full uninterrupted cycle; most BMS circuits will recover a cell that reads as low as 6.5V across the pack and bring it back to full charge capacity.
