Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Flymo Cordless Grass Trimmer — 18V Ni-MH Replacement Battery
An 18V, 1500mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for Flymo cordless grass trimmers and garden tools. Fits the Contour Cordless XT, Easicut 420, Easicut 500, and SimpliStore 300, among others. Voltage and capacity match OEM spec at 27Wh total energy.
- Shared platform compatibility: These Flymo models run the same 18V Ni-MH battery rail with a common connector and matching BMS charge profile, so one pack serves the full range.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran full charge/discharge cycles — the BMS held voltage stable under load and released cleanly at the low-voltage cutoff without tripping a false protection fault.
- First charge after storage: Ni-MH packs that have sat unused for months may show reduced initial capacity. Run two or three full charge/discharge cycles through the Flymo charger before judging performance — capacity recovers as the cells re-condition.
Why Ni-MH chemistry behaves differently to lithium in garden tools
Ni-MH cells have a flatter discharge curve than lithium. The trimmer may feel like it is fading gradually rather than cutting off sharply — that is normal behaviour for this chemistry. Temperature affects Ni-MH more than lithium; avoid charging immediately after heavy use. Let the pack cool to ambient temperature first to protect cell longevity.
Trimmer head slows under load — battery or motor?
If the cutting head bogs down on light grass, the cause is usually a pack that has voltage-sagged from age or deep discharge, not a motor fault. Check the pack voltage under load with a multimeter — a healthy 18V Ni-MH should hold above 15V during use. A replacement pack at full capacity restores full line speed. If the head still slows on a fresh, fully cycled battery, inspect the trimmer head for line feed blockages before suspecting the motor.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Flymo Contour XT starts cutting then bogs down and the motor sounds like it's struggling through thick grass — is that the battery dying?
On Ni-MH packs at this capacity, voltage sag under load is the most likely cause — the cell group can't sustain current draw when the line head meets resistance, so the trimmer loses torque mid-cut even though the battery shows a charge. We saw this behaviour consistently on aged packs where one or two cells in the series string had drifted low, pulling the whole pack down under load. Before replacing, charge fully, let it rest 30 minutes, then test on light grass first — if it only bogs on dense growth, the pack is failing under load rather than sitting dead on the shelf.
Charged my Flymo grass trimmer overnight and it lasted about two cuts then stopped working completely — now the charger won't even light up when I plug the battery in
A Ni-MH pack that sits deeply discharged for an extended period can drop below the voltage threshold the charger uses to detect a valid battery — the charger sees it as a fault or an empty slot rather than a battery to recover. This is a known failure mode with 18V Ni-MH packs that have been stored flat, often after a season sitting in a shed. Some chargers have a recovery or reconditioning mode; check whether holding the battery in the charger for 20–30 minutes produces any change in the indicator light before assuming the pack is dead. If the charger light stays completely dark or flashes an error, measure the pack voltage with a multimeter — anything below roughly 12V on an 18V Ni-MH string means the cells have self-discharged into a range most standard chargers won't attempt to recover from.
Replaced the battery on my Flymo trimmer but the cutting line keeps stopping and starting even on a full charge — never did this with the old battery
This intermittent behaviour on a new Ni-MH pack is usually a contact problem rather than a cell problem — the terminal springs in the trimmer battery compartment compress over time and may not seat firmly against a new pack with slightly different cell casing dimensions. It can also happen if the pack hasn't gone through a full initial charge cycle, since fresh Ni-MH cells can deliver uneven voltage until they've been conditioned. Check that the battery clicks fully into the housing and that the metal contacts in the compartment aren't corroded or bent outward from the old pack. Run two full charge-and-discharge cycles before concluding there's a fault with the replacement pack.
