Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Garmin Zumo 590 / 590LM / 595 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (010-12110-003)
This 3.7V, 1800mAh Li-ion cell replaces the original battery in the Garmin Zumo 590, Zumo 590LM, and Zumo 595 motorcycle GPS navigators, as well as devices listed under OEM references 361-00077-00, 361-00077-10, 616-00077-00, and 616-00077-10. It matches the original form factor at 52.00 × 35.50 × 11.20mm, fitting the battery bay without modification. Voltage and capacity are identical to factory spec.
- Zumo 590 / 590LM / 595 platform fit: These three units share the same battery bay geometry, connector pinout, and BMS communication protocol. The Zumo line uses a single-cell Li-ion pack with integrated thermistor — this cell carries the matching thermistor so the device's charge controller reads temperature correctly and won't abort mid-charge.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on a Zumo 590. The BMS accepted the cell without fault flags, charge termination triggered correctly at full capacity, and the low-voltage cutoff fired at the expected threshold — no premature shutdowns during discharge.
- Cold-start GPS initialisation after fitting: After fitting this cell, power the Zumo fully on outdoors before mounting it on the bike. The GPS module performs a cold start after any full power interruption — expect 5–10 minutes for the first satellite fix. Subsequent warm starts drop to under a minute once almanac data is cached.
Why the Zumo 590 shuts off without warning before the battery indicator hits zero
The Zumo 590's fuel gauge is a voltage-based estimator calibrated to the original cell's discharge curve. A new or aged cell with a slightly different curve means the device reads remaining capacity inaccurately. When the actual cell voltage drops below the hardware cutoff threshold, the unit powers off — even if the on-screen indicator showed 20% remaining. To recalibrate, run two full discharge-to-shutoff cycles followed by complete charges. After those cycles, the estimator tracks the new cell's curve and warning behaviour returns to normal.
Saved routes and waypoints missing after battery replacement
The Zumo 590 stores maps and most route data on internal flash, which is non-volatile and survives a full power removal. However, active trip logs, current route state, and some user waypoints held in battery-backed SRAM are lost the moment voltage drops to zero during a swap. Before removing the old battery, sync the device to Garmin Express or export waypoints via the unit's built-in export function. After fitting this cell and powering on, re-import the exported file — waypoints restore fully and the device resumes normal operation.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Zumo 590 took over 10 minutes to find a satellite signal after I replaced the battery — is something wrong?
Nothing is wrong. The GPS module loses its cached almanac and ephemeris data when power is cut completely during a swap, forcing a cold start. Cold starts on the Zumo 590 typically take 5–10 minutes outdoors with a clear sky view. Leave the unit stationary outside with the screen on and it will acquire a full fix — subsequent power cycles return to warm-start lock times of under 60 seconds.
The Zumo 595 battery indicator drops from 30% to zero and shuts off with no warning — what causes that?
The on-screen percentage is a voltage-curve estimate calibrated to the original cell. A replacement cell's discharge curve is close but not identical, so the estimator reads high until the actual cell voltage hits the hardware cutoff at roughly 3.0V and the unit powers off. Run the battery down to shutoff twice and charge fully each time. After two full cycles the estimator tracks the new cell's curve and the low-battery warning fires at the right point again.
Active navigation drains the Zumo 590LM much faster than it did in standby — is the new battery faulty?
It is not faulty — this is normal behaviour specific to active navigation mode. The GPS receiver, backlit display at full brightness, and Bluetooth all draw simultaneously during turn-by-turn navigation versus only the keep-alive circuit in standby. Total draw in active navigation on the Zumo 590LM is several times higher than standby draw. Drop screen brightness to 50% and turn off Bluetooth when not using a headset — both cuts reduce active draw noticeably without affecting GPS accuracy.
