Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Garmin Approach G30 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (361-00043-02)

This 3.7V 700mAh Li-ion cell replaces the original battery in the Garmin Approach G30 handheld GPS golf navigator (010-01690-00). It restores power to the touchscreen display and GPS receiver used for on-course yardage measurements and scoring. Voltage and capacity match the OEM specification exactly.

  • Approach G30 fitment: The G30 uses a dedicated connector and a BMS that checks cell voltage at startup. This replacement cell meets that voltage threshold, so the device boots normally without a low-battery alert on first power-on.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through full charge and discharge on the G30 platform. The BMS accepted the cell without fault codes, and the GPS receiver initialised correctly through each cycle.
  • First-fix cold start after swap: After fitting this cell, power the G30 on outdoors before your round. A full power interruption triggers a cold start — allow 5 to 10 minutes for the first satellite fix. Subsequent warm starts lock in under a minute once the almanac data is cached.

Saved courses and round data after a battery swap on the G30

The Approach G30 stores course maps and downloaded content in flash memory, which survives a full battery removal. However, active round data — current hole position, score entries in progress — sits in volatile RAM and clears the moment power drops to zero. If you swap mid-round, that session data is gone. Finish or save any active round before removing the battery.

G30 shutting off without a low-battery warning

The battery indicator on the G30 reads state-of-charge from a voltage curve calibrated to the original cell. After a battery swap, that curve is uncalibrated — the device can hit its hardware cutoff voltage before the on-screen indicator reaches the final warning bar. This is especially noticeable on an aged unit seeing a fresh cell for the first time. Run two full charge and discharge cycles to let the device recalibrate its gauge; the cutoff threshold sits at approximately 3.0V.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Garmin Approach G30 is taking forever to find satellites after I replaced the battery — is something wrong?

Nothing is wrong. Removing the battery clears the GPS receiver's cached almanac and ephemeris data, forcing a cold start the next time you power on. Outdoors with a clear sky view, the first fix takes 5 to 10 minutes; subsequent power-ons warm-start in under a minute once the almanac rebuilds. Stand still in an open area for that first lock rather than walking — movement slows the initial acquisition.

The G30 is cutting off without warning even though the battery indicator showed two bars — why?

The battery gauge reads voltage against a curve calibrated to the original cell. A new replacement cell has a slightly different discharge curve, so the indicator can show remaining charge while the actual cell voltage has already dropped to the hardware cutoff at around 3.0V. Run two full charge-to-discharge cycles on the G30 to let the gauge recalibrate against the new cell's voltage profile.

My G30 drains much faster when I'm actively navigating a course than when I just leave it idle — is the battery faulty?

It is not faulty. Active navigation runs the GPS receiver at full polling rate alongside the backlit touchscreen, which together draw significantly more current than standby mode. Lowering screen brightness to 50% or below cuts display draw noticeably. If drain still seems excessive during navigation, check whether the backlight timeout is set to "Always On" — switching it to a 15-second timeout is the single biggest reduction in active current draw.
