Fits Garmin Aera 795 and Aera 796; replaces OEM part 010-11756-04.
7.4V at 6800mAh delivers 50.32Wh for sustained GPS and moving map operations in cockpit.
Connector slides straight into battery slot with positive terminal forward and locking tab engagement.
Bench testing showed BMS accepting full charge cycle with no fault codes or cutoff anomalies.
After fitting this cell, power the Aera fully on outdoors and allow it to acquire satellite fix before flight — GPS performs a cold start after power interruption that takes 5–10 minutes for first fix versus under a minute for subsequent warm starts.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Garmin Aera 795 / Aera 796 — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (010-11756-04)

This 7.4V Li-ion cell replaces the original battery in the Garmin Aera 795 and Aera 796 portable aviation GPS navigators. Capacity is 6800mAh (50.32Wh), matching the original specification. It fits both units — the Aera 795 and 796 share the same battery bay and connector.

  • Aera 795 and 796 compatibility: Both models run on the same 7.4V battery platform and use identical physical connectors and BMS communication lines. One cell covers both units without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through full charge and discharge cycles on the Aera platform. The BMS handshake completed correctly — charge acceptance, low-voltage cutoff, and capacity reporting all registered within factory parameters.
  • Cold-start satellite acquisition after battery swap: After fitting this cell, power the unit on outdoors before your first flight and let it acquire a satellite fix on the ground. A full power interruption triggers a cold start — first fix can take 5–10 minutes. Subsequent warm starts return to under a minute.

Why the Aera 795 shuts off without warning at low battery

After extended use, the fuel gauge IC on an aging battery loses calibration — the reported state-of-charge drifts away from actual cell voltage. The device reads 15–20% remaining and then hits the hardware undervoltage cutoff at 6.0V before the visual low-battery warning has time to fire. Fitting a new cell resets this drift because the fuel gauge re-learns from a full, healthy charge cycle. After the first full charge, run the Aera down to automatic shutdown once to allow the gauge to anchor its calibration.

GPS accuracy drops or receiver sensitivity reduces at low charge

The Aera 795 reduces power to the GPS receiver module when cell voltage sags below approximately 7.0V under load. Lower receiver power means weaker signal processing — the unit may drop from a 3D fix to a 2D fix or lose marginal satellites entirely. This is a firmware-level power management decision, not a hardware fault. Keep the cell above 50% charge during active navigation to hold full receiver sensitivity and maintain 3D fix quality.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Aera 795 lost all my saved routes and custom POIs after I swapped the battery — is that normal?

Yes. The Aera 795 stores user data in flash memory, but some session state and recently cached route data can be held in battery-backed RAM. A full power removal — such as a battery swap — clears that volatile memory. Saved flight plans stored in non-volatile flash should survive, but any unsaved active route or recently added POI that hadn't been written to flash will be gone. Before swapping the battery, use the device's data export function or sync to Garmin BaseCamp to back up your waypoints and routes.

Satellite lock is taking 5–10 minutes after fitting the new battery — was the cell installed wrong?

Nothing is wrong. Removing the battery causes a complete power loss, which forces the GPS receiver to perform a cold start — it discards its last known position, almanac, and ephemeris data. From a cold state, acquiring enough satellites for a fix takes 5–10 minutes, especially indoors or in a hangar. Power the Aera on outside with a clear sky view and leave it stationary until the fix locks. Every subsequent start from a warm state will lock in under a minute.

The Aera 796 drains noticeably faster during active flight navigation than it did sitting on standby — is something wrong with the new cell?

Nothing is wrong with the cell. Active navigation simultaneously runs the GPS receiver at full sensitivity, renders moving maps, processes terrain data, and keeps the backlight on — that combination draws significantly more current than standby. Backlight is the largest single variable — dropping screen brightness from maximum to 50% reduces display draw substantially. If drain still seems excessive, check whether the unit is also connected to an aviation datalink or external antenna, both of which add continuous draw on top of the base navigation load.
