Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Golf Buddy VTX / DSC-VTX-100 — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (SHT503055)

This 3.7V, 900mAh Li-Polymer cell replaces the original SHT503055 battery in the Golf Buddy VTX and DSC-VTX-100 GPS rangefinder. At 56.20 × 30.60 × 5.10mm, it fits the original battery bay without modification. When the stock cell can no longer hold a charge through a full round, this is the direct swap.

  • VTX and DSC-VTX-100 compatibility: Both models share the same compact battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. The SHT503055 part number covers the full range — voltage rail and charge termination logic are identical across units.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through full charge and discharge cycles on the VTX platform. The BMS responded correctly to charge termination at 4.2V and low-voltage cutoff fired cleanly without false triggers.
  • Post-swap GPS initialisation: After fitting this cell, power the VTX fully on outdoors before your round and let it acquire a satellite fix. Full power removal triggers a cold start — first fix can take 5–10 minutes outdoors versus under a minute for a subsequent warm start.

GPS accuracy dropping at low battery on the VTX

At low cell voltage, the VTX reduces power to the GPS receiver to extend remaining use. This lowers receiver sensitivity, which weakens satellite signal acquisition — particularly under tree cover or in valleys. The result is yardage readings that update slowly or show position drift. Keep the cell above 3.6V during active play to maintain full receiver sensitivity.

VTX shutting off without a low-battery warning

The on-screen battery indicator on the VTX is calibrated to the original cell's discharge curve. A worn or replacement cell with a slightly different curve can hit the hardware cutoff voltage before the indicator reaches the warning threshold. The unit cuts off abruptly, with no low-battery alert displayed. After fitting this replacement, run one full charge-to-cutoff cycle outdoors so the indicator recalibrates to the new cell's actual discharge profile.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Golf Buddy VTX lost all my saved courses after I swapped the battery — is that normal?

Yes. The VTX stores some course data and settings in battery-backed RAM. A full power interruption — like removing the battery entirely — can wipe that volatile memory. Downloaded course maps stored in flash are usually retained, but custom settings and any unsaved round data are at risk. Reconnect to the Golf Buddy app or web portal after the swap to re-sync your course library.

After fitting the new battery, the VTX is taking forever to find my location on the course — what's wrong?

Nothing is wrong with the battery or the unit. Removing power forces a GPS cold start, which means the receiver has lost its last known position and satellite almanac data. Outdoors with a clear sky view, the VTX needs 5–10 minutes to rebuild that data and get a first fix. Subsequent power cycles on the same course will lock in under a minute once the almanac is cached again.

The VTX battery drains noticeably faster when I'm actively checking yardages compared to when I just leave it in my bag — why?

Active GPS use pulls significantly more current than standby. Every time you wake the screen and pull a yardage, the receiver re-queries satellite positions and the display runs at full brightness — both drawing from the same 900mAh cell simultaneously. Leaving the backlight on between holes is the single biggest drain factor on this unit. Reduce backlight timeout in the display settings to cut active draw and extend use across a full round.
