Fits Garmin Montana 600, 600T, 650, 650T and replaces OEM part numbers 361-00053-00, 010-11599-00, 010-11654-03, 361-00053-04.
3.7V, 1800mAh capacity restores full runtime on field navigation and extended backcountry use without mid-trip shutoff.
Connector slides straight into the battery slot with the contact tabs facing the spring assembly — no rotation needed.
We bench tested this cell through five full charge cycles; the BMS regulated voltage flat at 4.2V peak with no early cutoff.
After installing this battery, power the Montana 600 outdoors and let it acquire a satellite fix before navigation — cold start after power interruption takes 5–10 minutes for first lock instead of under one minute on warm start.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Garmin Montana 600 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (361-00053-00)

This 3.7V, 1800mAh Li-ion cell replaces the original rechargeable battery in the Garmin Montana 600, 600T, 650, and 650T handheld GPS navigators. It matches the OEM voltage rail, connector, and form factor. Fits the full Montana series that uses part number 361-00053-00 or 010-11599-00.

  • Montana 600 and 650 series compatibility: These models share an identical battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS communication protocol. The same cell covers both touchscreen and non-touchscreen variants across the Montana line without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell in a Montana 650T and confirmed the BMS accepted the charge cycle without flagging a fault. The device reported battery status correctly through the full charge and discharge curve.
  • Cold-start behaviour after fitting: After fitting this cell, power the unit on outdoors and let it acquire a satellite fix before your first trip. A full power interruption triggers a cold start — expect the first fix to take 5–10 minutes. Subsequent warm starts drop back under a minute once the almanac is rebuilt.

Saved routes and waypoints disappearing after a battery swap

The Montana stores most user data — waypoints, tracks, and routes — in non-volatile flash memory, so a battery swap alone will not erase it. However, if the battery was fully depleted before removal, the unit may have lost unsaved active tracks held in battery-backed RAM. Always let an active track finish recording and save it manually before pulling the battery. After refitting, navigate to the Track Manager and confirm your saved data is intact before heading into the field.

Montana shutting off without a low-battery warning

This happens when the on-screen battery gauge is reading against the old cell's discharge curve. A new cell has a slightly different voltage-versus-capacity profile, so the Montana's indicator can jump from showing two bars to cutting off entirely with no warning. The fix is to run one full charge-discharge cycle in the device. After that single cycle, the gauge recalibrates to the new cell's curve and the low-battery warning fires at the correct threshold — around 3.5V — giving you enough lead time to save your position.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Montana 650 got a fresh battery but satellite lock is taking way longer than it used to — is something wrong?

Nothing is wrong with the unit or the battery. A full power interruption — which happens any time the battery is removed — forces a cold start, meaning the GPS has to re-download the satellite almanac from scratch. That first fix takes 5–10 minutes outdoors with a clear sky view. After that initial acquisition, the almanac is stored and subsequent lock times drop back to under a minute.

The battery meter on my Montana 600 drops from half charge to dead with no warning — why?

The charge indicator is calibrated to the discharge curve of the cell currently in the unit. After a battery swap, the new cell's voltage profile doesn't match the old one, so the firmware misjudges remaining capacity and hits the cutoff threshold — around 3.5V — before the warning fires. Run one complete charge cycle from flat to full and the gauge recalibrates. The low-battery alert will trigger at the correct point from then on.

My Montana 650T drains noticeably faster when I'm actively navigating versus just carrying it — is the battery faulty?

The battery is working as expected. Active navigation runs the GPS receiver continuously and keeps the display lit, which together draw significantly more current than standby. Reducing screen brightness and setting the map update rate to a lower frequency in the GPS settings cuts the draw considerably. If drain still seems excessive during active use after a full charge cycle, check whether track recording is set to record every second — switching to a distance-based interval reduces receiver polling and extends charge between stops.
