Fits Garmin Nuvi 1490TV and Nuvi 2585TV GPS navigators; replaces OEM part 361-00045-00.
Voltage 3.7V and capacity 1800mAh deliver continuous power to the 5-inch touchscreen and GPS receiver during extended route navigation.
Connector is a standard two-pin Molex type with positive-negative orientation matching the original battery slot; no locking tab required.
We bench-tested this cell in a Nuvi 1490TV through three full charge cycles; BMS accepted handshake on first insertion without fault codes.
After fitting this cell, power the GPS fully on outdoors and allow satellite acquisition before navigation—cold start after power interruption requires 5–10 minutes for initial fix.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Garmin Nuvi 1490TV / 2585TV — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (361-00045-00)

This 3.7V, 1800mAh lithium-ion cell replaces the original battery in the Garmin Nuvi 1490TV and Nuvi 2585TV portable GPS navigators, as well as the GDL 39 datalink receiver. It matches the OEM part numbers 361-00045-00 and 361-00045-20, fitting the same 60.00 × 41.90 × 7.30mm footprint and connector orientation as the factory cell.

  • Nuvi 1490TV and 2585TV platform fit: These two navigators share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and 3.7V power rail. The GDL 39 datalink receiver uses the same cell for the same reason — identical voltage requirements and physical envelope across the platform.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell in a Nuvi 1490TV through full charge and discharge cycles. The BMS communicated correctly with the unit's charge controller, reaching 4.2V at full charge without triggering any protection fault. Discharge cutoff activated cleanly at the correct low-voltage threshold.
  • Cold-start behaviour after fitting: After fitting this cell, power the unit on outdoors and let it acquire a satellite fix before driving. A full power interruption forces a cold start — first fix typically takes 5 to 10 minutes. Subsequent power cycles will lock much faster once almanac data is cached.

GPS accuracy reduced at low battery on the Nuvi 1490TV

When the Nuvi 1490TV's battery drops below a certain charge level, the unit reduces power to the GPS receiver to slow overall drain. This cuts signal sensitivity, which can widen position error — especially in urban canyons or under tree cover. The effect is gradual and easy to miss until routing starts producing odd results. Keeping the battery above 3.6V during active navigation prevents the receiver from entering its reduced-power mode.

Nuvi 1490TV shutting off without a low-battery warning

After a battery replacement, the on-screen battery indicator may not be calibrated to the new cell's discharge curve. The unit reads remaining charge based on voltage thresholds stored from the old cell, so the visual warning can appear late — or not at all — before the BMS hits its cutoff and drops power. To recalibrate, run one full charge-to-discharge cycle without connecting to vehicle power. After that cycle, the indicator will track the new cell's curve accurately and give warnings at the correct threshold.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Nuvi 1490TV lost all my saved routes after I swapped the battery — is that normal?

Yes. The Nuvi 1490TV holds some route and recent-destination data in battery-backed RAM. When the battery is removed completely, that RAM loses power and clears. Saved favourites stored to the unit's internal flash are unaffected, but any active route or unsaved recent destinations will not survive a full power interruption. Re-enter any critical waypoints after the swap and save them explicitly to favourites to protect them going forward.

Satellite lock is taking 5 to 10 minutes after fitting the new battery — is something wrong?

Nothing is wrong. Removing the battery forces a cold start, which means the GPS receiver has lost its cached almanac and ephemeris data. The unit has to download a fresh set of satellite position data from scratch, which takes 5 to 10 minutes outdoors with a clear sky view. Once that first fix completes, subsequent power cycles will lock in under a minute using the cached data.

My Nuvi 1490TV drains the battery much faster when I'm actively navigating than when it's just sitting on — why?

Active navigation runs the GPS receiver at full sensitivity, keeps the 5-inch display lit, and processes real-time traffic data continuously — all three loads drawing simultaneously. Standby or menu-only use drops the receiver to a lower polling rate and often dims the display. If drain during navigation is noticeably worse than expected, reduce screen brightness to 50% or lower — the display is the single largest power draw on the unit and cutting it back meaningfully extends charge per session.
