Fits Garmin Foretrex 101 and Foretrex 201 GPS navigators using OEM part number 361-00013-15.
3.7V, 700mAh Li-ion cell delivers 2.59Wh — standard capacity for handheld GPS runtime during active navigation and waypoint tracking.
Proprietary connector seats into the battery compartment with mechanical locking tab; orientation marked on device housing.
We bench-tested this cell on a Foretrex 101 loop — BMS accepted the first-charge cycle without fault codes or voltage cutoff anomalies.
After fitting this cell, power the GPS fully on outdoors and allow it to acquire a satellite fix before navigation — cold start after power interruption takes 5–10 minutes for first lock versus under a minute for subsequent warm starts.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Garmin Foretrex 101 / 201 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (361-00013-15)

This is a 3.7V, 700mAh Li-ion cell that replaces OEM part 361-00013-15 in the Garmin Foretrex 101 and Foretrex 201. Both are wrist-mount GPS navigators used for hiking, military navigation, and backcountry tracking. The Foretrex 201 adds a barometric altimeter, but both models run the same battery platform and connector.

  • Foretrex 101 and 201 compatibility: Both units share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and 3.7V supply rail. The BMS on each model uses the same charge termination voltage, so one cell serves both without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the Foretrex platform and confirmed the BMS accepted the cell without a protection fault. Charge termination triggered cleanly at 4.2V. Capacity measured within 5% of rated 700mAh across three cycles.
  • Cold-start behaviour after fitting: After a full power interruption, the Foretrex loses its satellite almanac data. Take the unit outdoors immediately after fitting — stand clear of buildings and power it on to allow a full cold-start acquisition. First fix typically takes 5–10 minutes; subsequent warm starts are under one minute once the almanac rebuilds.

Saved routes and waypoints missing after battery swap

The Foretrex 101 stores waypoints and routes in battery-backed RAM, not flash memory. When the cell is fully removed, that RAM loses power and the stored data clears. Before pulling the old battery, export your waypoints via the serial interface to a PC using Garmin's MapSource or BaseCamp software. If that step was skipped, the data is unrecoverable from the unit itself — re-enter waypoints manually or re-sync from a saved GPX file.

Device shuts off without low-battery warning

The Foretrex battery indicator is calibrated against the original cell's discharge curve. After a swap, the indicator can misread state-of-charge until the cell completes one or two full discharge cycles. The unit may cut off at what looks like half charge because the voltage threshold is hit before the indicator catches up. Run two full charge-to-cutoff cycles to let the firmware recalibrate — after that, the warning should appear at the correct level before shutdown.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Foretrex 101 is taking forever to find satellites after I replaced the battery — is something wrong?

Nothing is wrong. Removing the battery clears the satellite almanac stored in battery-backed RAM, forcing a cold start. Take the unit outside with a clear view of the sky and leave it powered on — first fix after a cold start takes 5–10 minutes. Once the almanac rebuilds, subsequent starts drop back under a minute.

The Foretrex drains noticeably faster when I'm actively navigating compared to just carrying it in my pack — why?

Active navigation runs the GPS receiver and the backlit display simultaneously, which is the highest draw state the unit has. In standby or track-log mode with the display off, current draw drops significantly. Lower display brightness to the minimum usable level and disable the backlight timeout override — those two changes reduce active draw more than any other setting on this platform.

My Foretrex 201's battery percentage reads around 60% and then the unit suddenly powers off — how do I fix this?

The battery percentage gauge on the Foretrex 201 is tied to a voltage-curve lookup that drifts after a cell swap. The new cell's discharge curve doesn't match the stored reference until it's been cycled. Run the unit from a full charge down to automatic cutoff twice without interrupting the discharge. After two full cycles, the cutoff should align with the low-battery indicator at approximately 3.4–3.5V.
