Goddess CL490 — 14.4V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This is a 14.4V, 4000mAh Ni-MH battery pack for the Goddess CL490 cordless vacuum cleaner. It replaces the original pack that powers the motor and suction system. Fits the CL490 series where the factory cell has degraded and can no longer hold a working charge.

• CL490 motor voltage rail: The CL490 vacuum motor draws current in bursts — harder on carpet, lighter on hard floors. The 14.4V Ni-MH chemistry handles that variable draw without the voltage collapse you get from an aged original pack at the same nominal rating.
• Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through load and rest phases replicating typical vacuuming patterns. The cell voltage held above the BMS cutoff threshold through sustained draws, and the pack recovered cleanly between cycles without thermal shutdown.
• Dock charging on the CL490: Do not leave the CL490 sitting on the charging dock indefinitely between uses. Ni-MH cells on continuous trickle charge develop capacity fade faster than cells charged only when depleted. Charge to full, then remove from the dock.

Cordless vacuum losing suction before the battery indicator reaches low

This is a voltage sag issue, not a capacity issue. When the motor pulls hard — against carpet pile or a partially blocked filter — the internal resistance of a degraded Ni-MH cell causes voltage to drop faster than the indicator tracks. The indicator reads state of charge at rest, not under load. A fresh 14.4V pack with lower internal resistance holds voltage through those high-draw moments, keeping suction consistent until the pack is genuinely depleted.

Motor cuts out mid-clean then recovers after a few seconds

That cut-and-recover pattern is the BMS tripping on an overcurrent event, then resetting once current drops. On the CL490, this usually happens when the filter is restricted — the motor works harder to pull air, current spikes, and the BMS interprets it as a fault. Check and clean the filter first. If the fault persists on a clean filter, the original pack's cells can no longer supply peak current without triggering the trip threshold. A replacement pack at full capacity handles the current spike without hitting cutoff.
