Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Honeywell HH492 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BAT-492)
This 3.7V, 2600mAh Li-ion cell replaces the OEM pack in the Honeywell HH492 handheld barcode scanner. It fits the HH492 used across retail, warehouse, and logistics environments for product scanning and inventory management. Capacity matches the original BAT-492 specification at 9.62Wh.
- HH492 platform fit: The HH492 runs a single-cell 3.7V Li-ion architecture with a BMS that monitors cell voltage and temperature. This pack matches that voltage rail and uses a connector and contact layout that seats correctly in the HH492 battery bay without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through repeated scan-trigger events and wireless polling loads. The BMS held cutoff thresholds within spec and did not trip falsely under combined radio and imager draw.
- First-shift preparation: After installing, seat the scanner in its charging cradle and run a full charge cycle before the first pick-and-pack shift. Scan trigger inrush is highest when the cell sits near minimum — a fully charged cell prevents false BMS cutoff trips on the first active shift.
Cradle charging error on a new HH492 pack
A new pack sometimes triggers a charging fault on the HH492 cradle even though the battery is not defective. The cradle reads contact resistance at the dock pins, and any oxidation or debris on the pack's gold contacts causes the dock controller to flag an error. Wipe both the pack contacts and the cradle pins with a dry lint-free cloth, then reseat the scanner firmly until it clicks. If the error clears within 30 seconds, contact resistance was the cause — the cell itself is fine.
HH492 losing wireless connection during rapid scan bursts
During high-frequency scan sessions, the HH492 draws simultaneous current from the imager and the wireless radio. If the cell voltage sags below approximately 3.4V under that combined load, the wireless module drops its connection before the BMS fully trips. This looks like a network fault but it is a voltage event. Recharge the pack and monitor whether the drops correlate with low battery indicators — if they do, the cell is nearing end of life and needs replacement.

Frequently Asked Questions
My HH492 scanner stops reading barcodes right after I put in the new battery — what's wrong?
The imager needs a minimum supply voltage to fire consistently, and a new pack shipped in storage may sit at 3.2V or lower. At that level the imager power rail is marginal and scan reads fail or come back empty. Put the scanner in the cradle first and charge to full before using it on the floor. Once the cell is above 3.6V, imager performance returns to normal.
The scanner runs noticeably warm after a few hours on shift — is that a battery problem?
Sustained combined draw from the wireless radio and imager in the HH492's enclosed housing generates more heat than either load alone. The Li-ion cell also adds a small thermal contribution under continuous discharge. This is normal within limits — if the housing is uncomfortably hot to hold, check that the scanner isn't sitting in direct sunlight or inside a warm enclosure between scans. Ambient heat above 35°C accelerates capacity fade, so move the charging cradle out of heated areas.
Our HH492 batteries aren't lasting through a full shift like they used to — what's actually draining them faster?
Scan burst frequency and wireless polling interval are the two biggest draws on the HH492, and both increase as pick volumes rise. If the team is scanning more items per hour or the WMS polling rate was adjusted, per-shift energy draw goes up without any fault in the battery itself. Check the wireless polling interval in the device configuration — reducing it from continuous to 500ms intervals can meaningfully reduce draw per shift. If the pack is more than 18 months old, capacity fade from cycle ageing is also a factor and replacement is the correct fix.
