This is a 14.4V, 2450mAh Li-ion battery for the HP Pavilion 14 and Pavilion Sleekbook 14 notebook series. It covers OEM part numbers including HSTNN-YB4D, VK04, and 694864-851. Fit also extends to TPN-Q113 and TPN-Q114 board variants.

  • Pavilion 14 and Sleekbook 14 compatibility: Both lines share the same 14.4V battery rail, VK04 connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. A single cell works across the full variant range without adapter or firmware change.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell on a Pavilion 14 board and confirmed full BMS handshake, stable charge acceptance to 100%, and correct Wh reporting in HP Support Assistant. No error flags during the charge cycle.
  • Post-install recalibration on the Pavilion 14: After installing, run one full discharge to hibernate-cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. This resets the BIOS battery learn cycle and clears the inaccurate health warning that appears after every cell swap.

BIOS reporting poor battery health immediately after replacing the cell

HP's BIOS reads health data from the battery's EEPROM, which still carries the degraded profile of the old cell at the moment of swap. The new cell's EEPROM hasn't been written with charge history yet, so the BIOS flags it as unknown or poor. Running one full discharge-to-hibernate then a full uninterrupted charge completes the battery learn cycle. After that cycle, HP Support Assistant and the BIOS should both report the cell correctly.

This happens when the fuel gauge IC hasn't yet calibrated against the new cell's actual voltage curve. Under full CPU and display load, the cell hits a voltage cliff that the uncalibrated gauge misreads as 20–30% remaining. The system interprets the voltage drop as a critical low and cuts power. Run two or three full discharge-to-hibernate and full-charge cycles — the gauge IC maps the new curve and the shutdowns stop. After calibration, verify the cell holds above 12.0V under load before the shutdown threshold triggers.

HP Support Assistant still shows 0% capacity and "Unknown" battery after I put the new cell in — is the battery dead?

The old cell's EEPROM data is still cached in the BIOS from before you swapped it. The new cell hasn't completed a learn cycle yet, so the system can't read it correctly. Run a full discharge to hibernate-cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100% without unplugging. After that cycle completes, HP Support Assistant will re-read the EEPROM and report the cell accurately.

My Pavilion 14 shows 35Wh in system info but I've seen other listings say this battery is higher — did I get the wrong one?

The 35Wh figure matches this cell exactly — 2450mAh at 14.4V gives 35.28Wh, which is what the EEPROM reports to the OS. Listings showing a higher Wh rating on the same part number are either a different chemistry revision or inflated spec copy. Check Device Manager → Batteries → Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and confirm the "Design Capacity" reads at or near 35,280mWh.

New battery is stuck at 80% and won't charge any higher on my Pavilion 14 — is something wrong with the cell?

HP's BIOS includes a Battery Care Mode that caps charge at 80% to reduce cell stress during long AC-connected use. It isn't a fault with the replacement cell. Go to HP Support Assistant → Battery settings, or check BIOS under System Configuration → Battery Care Mode and switch it off. After disabling, initiate a fresh charge cycle — the cell will charge to 100%.
