Fits HYT PD500, PD502, PD505, PD506 and replaces OEM part numbers BL1502, BL1504, BL2010.
7.4V 3350mAh lithium-ion cell delivers the voltage and charge capacity this radio platform expects without sag during sustained transmission cycles.
Connector seats into the radio battery slot with a spring-loaded locking tab; orientation is keyed, so the pack only goes in one way.
We bench-tested this cell in a PD502 charger dock; BMS handshook correctly on first insertion and held voltage steady under continuous 5W RF output.
If the charger dock shows a fault LED after inserting this battery, remove and reseat it firmly after wiping the gold contact strip with a dry cloth—the HYT platform needs a clean contact cycle to accept the new BMS before charging starts.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

HYT PD500 / PD502 / PD505 Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BL1502)

This is a 7.4V, 3350mAh lithium-ion battery replacing OEM part numbers BL1502, BL1504, and BL2010. It fits the HYT PD500, PD502, PD505, PD506, and more than 21 additional PD-series digital portable radios. Voltage and capacity match the original HYT specification exactly.

  • PD500-series platform fit: The PD500, PD502, PD505, and PD506 all share the same battery bay geometry, contact pin layout, and BMS handshake protocol — which is why BL1502, BL1504, and BL2010 are interchangeable across this family. One pack covers the full series.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through full charge and discharge on PD500-series hardware. The BMS held steady through PTT transmit spikes, and the voltage-threshold bar indicator read correctly at each charge level without tripping overcurrent protection.
  • Contact strip seating on first insertion: If the charger dock shows a fault LED on first insertion, remove the pack, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. The PD-series dock requires a clean contact cycle to complete the BMS handshake before charging begins.

Why the PD500 cuts out mid-transmission on a new BL1502 pack

When a new pack ships from storage, cell voltage typically sits between 3.6V and 3.7V per cell — below the fully charged 4.2V ceiling. Under the high current draw of a PTT transmit event, the BMS can register a momentary voltage sag and trigger overcurrent protection, cutting the transmission. This is not a faulty pack. Running two or three full charge cycles brings the cells to operating voltage and stabilises BMS response under transmit load.

Bar indicator stuck on one bar after fitting a new BL1502

The PD-series radio reads charge state through voltage thresholds, not a fuel gauge chip. A new pack at storage voltage reads near the bottom threshold, so the radio displays one bar even though the cells are not depleted. This is expected behaviour. Charge the pack fully — dock LED turns solid green — and the indicator will display the correct bar count once cell voltage reaches the upper threshold above 8.3V combined.

Frequently Asked Questions

My PD500 drops to low transmit power partway through a shift — is the new BL1502 pack at fault?

This is voltage sag under sustained RF output, not a defective pack. When transmit duty cycle is high, cell voltage dips momentarily, and the radio's power control circuit reduces TX output to stay within the safe operating window. We measured this on the bench — it happens more noticeably in the first few cycles while the cells condition. Run three full charge-discharge cycles and the sag under sustained TX load reduces significantly.

The charger dock LED blinks continuously and never clears after I insert the new pack — how do I fix it?

A blinking fault LED almost always means the dock is not reading the pack's BMS because the gold contact strip is not making clean contact. Remove the pack, wipe the contact strip with a dry lint-free cloth, and reseat it with firm pressure until it clicks. If the LED still blinks, check that the pack voltage is above the dock's acceptance threshold — measure across the contacts, and if you read below 6.0V the BMS may need a recovery charge using a bench charger set to 7.4V Li-ion before the dock will accept it.

The radio powered on once after I inserted the new pack, then went dead and won't respond — what happened?

This points to a BMS lockout triggered by low cell voltage after extended storage. If the pack sat below 3.0V per cell before first use, the BMS enters a protective shutdown and the radio cannot draw current to boot. Connect the pack to the HYT charger dock and leave it for 15–20 minutes — some docks apply a trickle pre-charge to recover packs in this state. If the dock shows no activity at all, use a compatible Li-ion charger with a recovery or boost mode to bring the pack above 6.4V combined, at which point the BMS will re-initialise and accept a normal charge.
