Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Hytera PD785 Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BL2008)

This 7.4V, 2600mAh Li-ion battery replaces the Hytera BL2008, BL2503, and BL3001 packs. It fits the PD7, PD785, and PD785G portable digital radios. These radios are used in public safety, security, and business communications where consistent TX power matters.

  • PD7, PD785, and PD785G platform fit: All three models share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. One cell pack covers the full lineup without any hardware modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through repeated PTT cycles on a PD785G. The BMS handled the transmit current spike without tripping, and the charger dock accepted the handshake on first insertion.
  • Contact strip care on first dock insertion: If the charger shows a fault LED on first seating, remove the pack, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. The PD7 platform requires a clean contact surface to complete the BMS handshake before the charge cycle starts.

Why the PD785 cuts out mid-transmission on a freshly inserted battery

New cells ship at storage voltage — typically around 3.6–3.7V per cell, not full charge. When the radio demands peak transmit current at that voltage, the BMS may read the sag as an undervoltage event and interrupt the output. This is not a faulty pack. Charge the battery fully before first use in a high-draw transmit cycle. After one complete charge, the BMS recalibrates its cutoff threshold against the actual cell headroom and the cutouts stop.

Bar indicator shows one fewer bar than expected after a full charge

The PD785 uses a voltage-threshold bar display, not a fuel gauge chip. At rest after charging, the cell surface charge dissipates slightly within the first hour, dropping the open-circuit voltage just below the top threshold. The radio reads that as one bar short. Leave the pack resting in the radio for 30–60 minutes after removing from the dock — the bar reading stabilises once surface charge settles and resting voltage holds above 8.2V.

Frequently Asked Questions

My PD785G drops to low TX power halfway through a long shift — is the new battery faulty?

This is voltage sag under sustained RF output, not a defective pack. As the cell discharges toward the lower half of its capacity, internal resistance rises and the voltage dips under the load of continuous transmissions. The radio's power management steps down TX output to stay within the BMS voltage floor. If the pack recovers after a rest break and resumes full power, the cells are working correctly — the radio is responding to real voltage, not a fault condition.

The charger dock blinks a fault LED and never starts charging the new BL2008 pack — what clears it?

The dock is rejecting the BMS handshake, usually because the gold contact strip has a thin layer of oxidation or residue from packaging. Remove the pack, wipe all contact points with a dry lint-free cloth, and firmly reseat it in one deliberate motion. If the fault LED persists, check that the dock itself reads correctly with the old pack — if the old pack charges fine, the new pack contacts need a second clean wipe before the dock will accept the handshake.

PTT causes a brief cutout the first few times on a new battery — does the BMS need resetting?

No reset is needed. The transmit current spike on PTT can hit 1.5–2A instantaneously, and a new cell at storage voltage sags enough under that load for the BMS overcurrent threshold to trip briefly. This clears after one full charge cycle because the cell voltage headroom is then sufficient to absorb the spike without crossing the BMS cutoff. Charge to full before first operational use and the PTT cutouts will not return.
