Fits Hytera PD980, PD985, and PD985B radios; replaces OEM part BL2016.
7.4V, 3350mAh lithium-ion pack delivers full transmit power without sag during extended operations.
Gold contact strip slides into the battery door slot with a firm click; ensure contacts face the radio.
We bench-tested this cell on a PD985 charger dock—BMS accepted the pack on first insertion with no fault LED.
On initial charge in a Hytera dock, if the LED blinks or stalls, remove the battery, wipe the gold contacts with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly—the radio platform needs a clean contact cycle to accept the new BMS before charging resumes.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Hytera PD980 / PD985 Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BL2016 / BL3004)

This is a 7.4V, 3350mAh lithium-ion replacement battery for the Hytera PD980, PD985, and PD985B portable two-way radios. It matches the OEM voltage rail and connector pinout for these professional land mobile radios. Capacity figures come from the product data — 3350mAh / 24.79Wh.

  • PD980 / PD985 platform fit: Both the PD980 and PD985 series run the same 7.4V battery architecture, share the same multi-pin connector, and use the same BMS handshake sequence with Hytera chargers. That is why a single battery covers both radio lines — the pack, the contact layout, and the charge acceptance protocol are identical across the group.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through full charge and discharge on a PD980 body, monitoring BMS cutoff voltage and transmit-load response. The cell stack held voltage under sustained PTT draw without triggering overcurrent protection, and the charger accepted the BMS handshake correctly on first insertion.
  • First-insertion contact check: If the charger dock shows a fault LED on first seating, remove the battery and wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth before reinserting. The Hytera charging platform requires a clean contact cycle to complete the BMS handshake — contamination on the contacts is the most common reason a new pack is rejected at the dock before charging begins.

Why the PD980 drops to reduced TX power mid-shift on a new battery

The PD980 monitors battery voltage continuously during transmission. When voltage sags below the radio's internal threshold under sustained RF output, the firmware steps down transmit power to protect the final amplifier stage. A new cell at storage voltage — typically around 3.7V per cell — has less headroom than a fully charged pack at 4.2V per cell, so this behaviour can appear on the first shift before the battery has completed a full charge cycle. Run the pack through one complete charge before putting it into a heavy-use rotation. After a full charge, the 7.4V nominal pack should hold well above the sag threshold under normal PTT duty cycles.

Bar indicator showing fewer bars than expected after installing a new BL2016

Hytera portables use a voltage-threshold system to drive the bar indicator — each bar corresponds to a voltage band, not a calculated capacity percentage. A new pack shipped at storage voltage reads lower on that scale, so the display may show one or two bars fewer than a fully charged original. This is not a fault with the cell. Charge the battery fully in the Hytera dock until the charger shows a solid green, then insert it into the radio — the bar indicator will reflect the correct charge level once the pack reaches its top-of-charge voltage of approximately 8.4V.

Frequently Asked Questions

My PD980 cuts out completely when I press PTT — could the new BL2016 be causing it?

Yes, this is a BMS overcurrent trip. The transmit current spike on the PD980 at full power can hit the pack's overcurrent threshold if the cell temperature is low or the pack has not yet completed a full charge cycle. Remove the battery, let it warm to room temperature, charge it fully, then reinsert. If the cutout stops, the BMS was tripping on a cold or under-voltage cell — not a faulty pack.

The Hytera charger dock blinks a fault LED on the new battery and never clears — what is happening?

A new pack shipped from storage may sit below the dock's acceptance voltage threshold, which causes the charger to flag it as a fault rather than begin charging. Remove the pack, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat it firmly with a single clean press. If the fault LED persists, the cell voltage may need a manual boost — check that the pack reads at least 6.0V across the terminals with a multimeter before attempting a second dock insertion.

The PD985B shows a full bar on a fresh charge but drops two bars within the first hour of standby — is the cell capacity low?

Standby drain on the PD985B is low enough that a two-bar drop in under an hour points to a voltage-settling issue, not a capacity fault. New lithium-ion cells take one to three full charge-discharge cycles before the cell voltage stabilises at rest. Run the pack through two complete cycles — full charge in the dock, discharge through normal radio use, repeat — and check the bar reading again after the second full charge reaches 8.4V.
