Fits Insignia NS-NCV20 GPS navigator; replaces OEM part number 604060(140).
3.7V, 1400mAh lithium-polymer cell delivers full capacity for sustained handheld navigation without mid-route shutoffs.
Connector slides vertically into battery slot with single locking tab; verify tab seats flush before closing door.
Bench testing showed clean voltage ramp on first charge; BMS settled at 4.2V nominal within two cycles.
After installing this cell, power the GPS fully on outdoors and allow ten minutes for satellite acquisition — cold start after battery removal takes longer than warm starts.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Insignia NS-NCV20 — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (604060(140))

This 3.7V, 1400mAh lithium-polymer cell replaces the original battery in the Insignia NS-NCV20 portable GPS navigator. It matches the OEM part number 604060(140) and fits the physical bay without modification. Capacity figures are taken directly from the product specification — 5.18Wh total energy.

  • NS-NCV20 fit: The NS-NCV20 uses a single-cell Li-Polymer pack at 3.7V nominal. This cell matches that voltage rail and the 60.75 × 36.26 × 5.30mm footprint, so the connector seats correctly and the BMS reads state-of-charge without calibration errors.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on GPS navigator hardware. The BMS reported accurate state-of-charge from the first cycle and did not trigger false low-voltage cutoffs during active navigation sessions.
  • Cold-start tip for the NS-NCV20: After fitting this cell, power the unit on outdoors and let it acquire a satellite fix before driving. The NS-NCV20 performs a cold start after any full power interruption — first fix can take 5–10 minutes, while subsequent warm starts lock in under a minute.

GPS accuracy reduced at low battery on the NS-NCV20

When cell voltage drops toward 3.4V, some GPS navigator units reduce RF receiver sensitivity to cut current draw. On the NS-NCV20 this shows up as position drift or a wider accuracy circle on-screen. It is not a satellite signal issue — it is a deliberate power-saving response in the receiver firmware. Keeping the battery above 3.6V during active navigation avoids the sensitivity reduction entirely.

NS-NCV20 shutting off without warning before the battery indicator empties

A degraded or freshly swapped cell can cause the NS-NCV20 to cut power abruptly while the on-screen indicator still shows one or two bars. The fuel gauge in this unit is voltage-based, not coulomb-counted, so the indicator loses accuracy when cell internal resistance changes. A new cell recalibrates over two to three full charge-discharge cycles. Run two complete cycles — charge to 4.2V, use until auto-shutdown — and the indicator will track remaining capacity correctly.

Frequently Asked Questions

My NS-NCV20 lost all my saved routes after I put in the new battery — is that permanent?

Saved routes and custom POIs on the NS-NCV20 are stored in flash memory, not battery-backed RAM, so a full power removal does not erase them. If routes are missing after the swap, the more likely cause is a corrupted map file triggered by the unexpected power loss before the battery died. Connect the unit to a PC via USB, check the internal storage for map and route files, and restore from a backup or re-enter the routes — the new battery will not cause further data loss.

Satellite lock is taking 5–10 minutes on my NS-NCV20 after the battery swap — was something damaged?

Nothing is damaged. Removing the battery wipes the almanac and ephemeris data the GPS receiver stores to speed up future locks. Without that cached data, the NS-NCV20 has to perform a cold start and download fresh satellite position data from scratch, which takes 5–10 minutes outdoors with a clear sky view. After that first fix the unit saves a new almanac, and subsequent warm starts lock in under a minute.

The NS-NCV20 drains noticeably faster during turn-by-turn navigation than when it's just sitting idle — is the battery faulty?

That behaviour is normal for this device class, not a cell fault. Active navigation runs the GPS receiver continuously, recalculates routes in real time, and keeps the backlit display on — current draw is significantly higher than standby. We measured the same pattern on the bench: idle draw is a fraction of active navigation draw. Reducing screen brightness to 50% during navigation is the single most effective way to extend use between charges on the NS-NCV20.
