Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Kaufel 011110 / 001870 — 6V Ni-CD Replacement Battery (BGN800-5DWP-PRB830EC)
This is a 6V, 800mAh nickel-cadmium replacement cell for Kaufel emergency lighting units, specifically models 011110 and 001870. These fittings provide backup illumination for exit routes and evacuation signage during mains failure. Capacity is 4.8Wh, matching the original OEM specification.
- Kaufel 011110 and 001870 compatibility: Both models share the same 6V cell format, connector pinout, and charge controller float voltage. A single cell revision covers both fittings without any wiring modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through a full charge and load discharge on the 011110 fitting. The charge controller accepted the new cell without fault, and the BMS held steady across the full discharge curve without tripping.
- Post-installation test cycle: Within 24 hours of fitting, hold the test button for the full rated duration. This confirms the new cell accepts load and lets the charge controller register capacity before the next scheduled compliance inspection.
Emergency light failing its duration test after battery replacement
A freshly installed Ni-CD cell does not ship at full charge. Storage discharge means the cell may only hold a fraction of its 800mAh capacity on the day of installation. Running a duration test immediately after fitting will likely result in a short illumination period, which can trigger a failed compliance log. Allow the fitting to trickle charge for at least 24 hours before conducting any timed duration test. After one full charge cycle, the cell reaches rated capacity and the fitting will hold its required output for the full test period.
Charge indicator staying red after new battery installation
The charge controller in these Kaufel fittings monitors incoming cell voltage at float acceptance. A cell that has self-discharged below approximately 5.4V during storage sits outside that acceptance window, so the controller continues to flag a fault rather than switching to green. Leave the fitting powered on the mains for a full 24-hour conditioning period — the trickle charge will bring the cell voltage up into the acceptance band. If the indicator remains red after 24 hours, check the cell connector seating and confirm terminal voltage at the cell tabs reads at least 5.8V.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Kaufel emergency light passed every test before I changed the battery — now it dims and cuts out partway through the test. What's wrong?
The new Ni-CD cell ships partially discharged from storage and hasn't yet reached its full 800mAh capacity. On first activation, the cell can't sustain output across the full test duration, which shows up as dimming or early cutoff. Charge the fitting on mains power for a minimum of 24 hours before running another timed test. One full charge cycle is enough for the cell to condition to rated capacity.
The fitting sat in a drawer for two years with the original battery still inside — now the new cell won't charge at all. How do I recover it?
Two years of continuous trickle charge in an unventilated space can deposit conductive material between cell contacts, or the charge controller may have latched into a fault state from the over-discharged original cell. Disconnect mains power completely for 30 seconds, reseat the new cell, then restore power. Check cell terminal voltage after one hour — it should read above 5.8V and climbing. If the controller still won't charge, confirm the cell tabs are making clean contact and that no corrosion is bridging the terminal posts inside the fitting.
The red fault LED is still on even though I've installed a confirmed good cell and the fitting has been on mains for 24 hours. Is the fitting faulty?
Some Kaufel fittings latch the fault LED in hardware and won't self-reset even after the fault condition clears. This is a controller design behaviour, not a sign that the new cell has failed. Isolate mains power to the fitting, wait 30 seconds, then restore — this forces a controller reboot and clears the latched fault state. If the LED returns to red within a few minutes of power restoration, measure cell voltage at the tabs; it should sit between 6.0V and 7.2V during float charge.
