Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Kaufel 850.0057 — 6V Ni-CD Replacement Battery (BGN2500-5DWP-A800EC)

This is a 6V, 3000mAh nickel-cadmium replacement cell for the Kaufel 850.0057 emergency lighting unit. It restores backup illumination function when the original cell has degraded or failed. Voltage, capacity, and connector match the OEM specification for this fitting.

  • Kaufel 850.0057 fitting compatibility: The 850.0057 uses a dedicated charge controller calibrated to a 6V Ni-CD float voltage. Swapping in a different chemistry or voltage will cause the controller to over- or under-charge the cell, shortening its service life and potentially triggering a persistent fault LED.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through a full charge and discharge on a 6V Ni-CD compatible test rig. The BMS accepted charge without fault, held voltage above the cutoff threshold throughout the discharge phase, and showed no memory-effect artefacts from factory storage.
  • Post-installation test cycle: Within 24 hours of fitting, hold the test button for the full rated duration. This confirms the cell accepts load under live conditions and lets the charge controller register the new cell's capacity before any scheduled compliance inspection.

Emergency light failing its duration test after battery replacement

A freshly installed Ni-CD cell shipped from storage has not yet been fully conditioned. The cell enters its first test cycle at partial capacity, so the light may cut out before the rated duration is reached. This is not a fault with the cell — it needs one full charge-discharge cycle to reach its rated 3000mAh. Allow a minimum 24-hour charge before running a formal compliance test.

Charge indicator staying red after new battery installation

When a replacement cell arrives from extended storage, its resting voltage may sit outside the float acceptance window the Kaufel charge controller expects. The controller reads this as an abnormal cell and holds a fault or charging state, keeping the indicator red. Leave the fitting on mains power for a full 24-hour charge cycle — the controller will accept the cell once the voltage climbs into the expected range. If the indicator stays red beyond 48 hours, measure the cell terminal voltage directly; it should be reading above 5.8V by that point.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Kaufel 850.0057 dims and cuts out partway through the monthly test — is the new battery faulty?

This usually means the cell was not fully charged before the test was run. A new Ni-CD cell from storage needs a full 24-hour conditioning charge before it can deliver rated capacity under load. Run a full charge cycle, then retest. If the light still cuts early after a confirmed 24-hour charge, measure the terminal voltage at the cell — it should hold above 5.4V under load during the test.

The fitting's fault LED is still on even though I've confirmed the new battery is seated correctly — what's wrong?

Some Kaufel fittings latch a fault LED in firmware and will not clear it automatically when the fault condition is resolved. Removing mains power for 30 seconds and restoring it will force a controller reset on most variants. If the LED persists after the reset and a full charge cycle, check that the cell connector is fully clicked in — a partial connection can register as a fault even when the cell appears seated.

The old battery in my 850.0057 had visibly swollen and was stuck in the fitting — what causes this?

Ni-CD cells in continuous trickle-charge environments swell when the charge controller applies sustained overcharge current, typically over years of uninterrupted mains connection in a warm location. Heat accelerates electrolyte gassing inside the cell casing, which causes the deformation. After fitting the replacement, check that the mounting location has adequate ventilation and that the fitting's charge termination circuit is functioning — a faulty termination circuit will repeat the overcharge cycle on the new cell.
