OS fuel gauge reading 0% or bouncing wildly for the first few cycles

The fuel gauge IC on this platform reads EEPROM data from the original cell and maps capacity estimates against it. A replacement cell has different internal resistance and a fresh charge curve, so the IC has no accurate reference point until it observes a full cycle. The gauge will report erratic percentages — sometimes 0%, sometimes jumping 20 points — for the first two to three cycles. Complete two full discharge-to-cutoff and charge-to-100% cycles and the gauge will stabilise to within a few percent of actual remaining capacity.

It is not faulty. The BIOS stores health data from the old cell in EEPROM and flags any new cell as degraded until a learn cycle clears that data. Run one full discharge to hibernate cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. After that single cycle the health warning clears on this platform.

Why does the Kohjinsha system info screen show the wrong Wh rating after swapping the battery?

The Wh figure shown in system info is pulled from EEPROM data written to the old cell — it is not read live from the new cell's chemistry. The replacement cell is rated at 24.42Wh, but the OS will display whatever the stored EEPROM value was until the battery learn cycle overwrites it. Complete one full calibration cycle and the reported Wh will update to reflect the actual cell data.

The K600 charges fine but the battery percentage jumps around and never seems accurate — what causes that on this model?

The fuel gauge IC on this platform calibrates against charge and discharge curves it has observed directly. A brand-new cell presents a curve the IC has never seen, so early percentage readings are unreliable. Run two complete cycles — full discharge to hibernate cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100% each time — and the IC will lock onto the new cell's curve. After the second cycle, gauge accuracy should settle to within 3–5% of actual capacity.
