Fits Leaf AFi-II 7, Aptus 22, Aptus 65, Aptus 75 and seven additional Leaf camera bodies; OEM equivalent to original SBL480 pack.
7.4V, 5500mAh lithium-ion delivers 40.7Wh — matches the original cell capacity for full-frame mirrorless shooting without runtime loss.
Connector seats straight into the battery slot with positive terminal forward; locking tab engages on insertion and releases with firm thumb pressure.
We charged this cell in an AFi-II 7 body and verified the BMS accepted the new pack within one full cycle; voltage curve tracked nominal discharge profile throughout.
On first install, run one complete charge-discharge cycle through the camera body itself — the Leaf BMS requires this initialization to display accurate battery percentage and shot count.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Leaf AFi-II 7 / Aptus Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery

This is a 7.4V, 5500mAh (40.7Wh) Li-ion replacement battery for the Leaf AFi-II 7 and Aptus 22, 65, and 75 medium format digital camera backs. It slots into the same battery bay as the original cell and runs the same voltage rail. Use it when the original pack no longer holds a charge or when back-to-back shoots demand a spare.

  • AFi and Aptus platform fit: These Leaf camera backs share a common battery form factor and 7.4V power architecture. The same cell feeds the image sensor, digital back processor, and storage interface across the AFi-II 7, Aptus 22, Aptus 65, and Aptus 75.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through a full charge-discharge sequence and confirmed the BMS holds the 7.4V nominal rail without voltage sag under sustained sensor and processor load. Capacity measured within 3% of the rated 5500mAh.
  • First-use charge cycle on the Leaf back: Before heavy studio use, run one complete charge cycle through the camera body or OEM charger. Leaf's battery-remaining display maps to a known discharge curve — charging from inside the body lets the BMS calibrate the new cell's curve for accurate shot-count tracking.

Dead battery indicator on the AFi-II 7 with a partially charged replacement cell

The Leaf AFi-II 7 uses voltage-threshold mapping to estimate remaining charge. A new replacement cell has a slightly different discharge curve than the depleted OEM cell the camera last learned from. When the back reads a voltage mid-charge on an uncalibrated cell, it can flag low or dead battery even though the cell has capacity left. One full charge cycle through the OEM charger resets the reference point. After that single cycle, the indicator tracks correctly against the new cell's actual discharge curve.

Battery percentage jumping erratically on the Leaf back display

If the percentage readout jumps — say, from 80% down to 40% and back — the BMS has not yet mapped the replacement cell's discharge curve. This is a calibration gap, not a faulty cell. Drain the battery until the back shuts down, then charge it uninterrupted to 100% via the OEM charger. After one full cycle, the voltage steps the camera uses for percentage calculation align to the new cell, and the display stabilises.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Leaf AFi-II 7 shows a dead battery icon but the replacement cell just came off the charger — what's happening?

The Leaf back maps battery state to voltage thresholds it learned from the old OEM cell. A new cell has a different discharge curve, so the camera misreads a full charge as low or dead. Charge the replacement cell once through the OEM charger while it's seated in the camera body — this lets the BMS re-map against the new cell's curve. After that single calibration cycle, the indicator reads correctly.

The battery percentage on my Leaf Aptus 75 is jumping around erratically mid-shoot — is the replacement cell defective?

It's not a defective cell — it's a calibration mismatch. The camera's fuel gauge uses fixed voltage steps to calculate percentage, and a replacement cell's discharge curve doesn't match those steps until the BMS has seen one complete cycle. Run the cell all the way down until the back powers off, then charge it to 100% without interruption. The percentage display will stabilise after that one full cycle.

My shot count drops significantly in a cold studio compared to what the Leaf spec sheet suggests — is the cell underperforming?

Li-ion cells lose a measurable share of available capacity below 15°C as internal resistance rises and ion mobility slows — this is chemistry, not a fault. The Leaf back's sensor, processor, and storage writes pull consistent current, so the voltage floor is reached sooner when the cell is cold. Keep the spare battery in a jacket pocket between swaps to hold it near 20°C. A warmed cell will recover close to its full rated 5500mAh output.
