Replaces Sharp BT-L445 and BT-L445U battery packs for VL-NZ80, VL-NZ50S, VL-NZ155, VL-NZ105 MiniDV camcorders.
7.4V 2000mAh lithium-ion cell delivers 14.8Wh — sufficient for typical single-scene MiniDV recording before swap needed.
Connector slides into Sharp camcorder battery slot with positive contact facing camera body; locking tab seats flush.
Bench testing showed clean BMS handshake on first insertion; cell discharged evenly across the voltage curve with no early cutoff.
On first charge in the camera body, the VL-NZ80 may display low-battery warning until one full charge cycle completes — this clears after the camera BMS recalibrates to the new cell.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Sharp VL-NZ80 Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BT-L445)

This 7.4V, 2000mAh Li-ion battery replaces the Sharp BT-L445 and BT-L445U cells. It fits the VL-NZ80, VL-NZ50S, VL-NZ155, VL-NZ105, and over 27 additional Sharp MiniDV camcorder models. Same voltage, same connector, same BMS handshake as the original pack.

  • VL-NZ series camcorder compatibility: These models share a common 7.4V two-cell Li-ion architecture with a matched connector and BMS communication line. That uniform power rail is why one pack covers the full range without any adapter or modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on a VL-NZ80 body. The BMS accepted the pack on first install, reported accurate charge state, and held voltage through sustained recording load without triggering a premature low-battery cutoff.
  • First-use charge cycle on MiniDV camcorders: Run one full charge cycle through the OEM charger or inside the camcorder body before your first shoot. Sharp's BMS on this series maps the battery-remaining indicator against internal cell data — skipping this step can cause the display to read inaccurately for the first few sessions.

Why the VL-NZ80 drops to "low battery" warning early on a new pack

Sharp's battery gauge on the VL-NZ series uses a voltage-threshold map calibrated to the original cell's discharge curve. A fresh replacement cell with a slightly different internal resistance will cause the indicator to trigger the warning at a higher state of charge than necessary. The camcorder isn't actually low — the gauge hasn't yet learned the new cell's curve. After two or three full charge-discharge cycles through the camera body, the readings settle and the warning aligns correctly with actual remaining charge.

Camcorder shows no battery or powers off immediately after inserting new pack

This happens when the replacement cell ships at a low storage voltage — typically below 3.0V per cell, or around 6.0V total pack voltage. The VL-NZ80's BMS interprets this as a dead or invalid battery and refuses to power the device. Place the pack in the OEM charger for a full charge cycle before inserting it into the camcorder body. Once the pack reaches at least 7.2V, the BMS re-evaluates and accepts it normally on the next power-on.

Frequently Asked Questions

My VL-NZ80 shows the battery indicator jumping between half and full charge randomly — is the new pack faulty?

The pack itself is most likely fine. Sharp's VL-NZ series maps battery percentage against voltage thresholds, and a new cell with a slightly different discharge curve causes the indicator to skip steps until the BMS has enough cycle data to recalibrate. Run two full charge-discharge cycles entirely through the camcorder body. After that, the gauge stabilises and tracks the actual charge state accurately.

The camcorder body gets noticeably warm during extended recording sessions on this battery — is that a cell problem?

The heat is coming from the camcorder, not the battery. Sustained MiniDV recording draws on the image sensor, tape transport motor, LCD, and image processing simultaneously — that combined load generates heat in the body regardless of which battery is fitted. Keep the LCD closed when monitoring through an external viewfinder to reduce one draw source, and avoid blocking the ventilation area on the base of the unit during long takes.

The new battery charged fully but the VL-NZ80 cut out mid-recording — what triggered that?

A mid-recording cutoff on a fully charged pack usually points to voltage sag under the combined motor and sensor load hitting the BMS's low-voltage protection threshold. This can occur in the first few cycles when the cell hasn't yet reached its full capacity through conditioning. Fully charge the pack, run it through one complete discharge in the camcorder, then charge it again. If the cutoff doesn't recur after two full cycles, the cell has conditioned correctly and the BMS trip threshold won't be hit under normal recording load.
