Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Magellan RoadMate 2000 / 2200T / 2250T — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (37-00030-001)

This 3.7V, 1700mAh Li-ion cell replaces the original battery in the Magellan RoadMate 2000, RoadMate 2200T, and RoadMate 2250T portable GPS navigators. It matches the OEM part numbers 37-00030-001, E4MT181202B12, and 027100SV8. Fit this battery when the original no longer holds charge or the unit dies before reaching your destination.

  • RoadMate 2000 / 2200T / 2250T platform: All three models share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and voltage rail. The BMS communicates over the same two-wire interface, so there is no handshake mismatch on any of the three units.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on RoadMate 2000 hardware. The BMS accepted the cell without fault codes, and charge termination triggered correctly at 4.2V. Discharge cutoff engaged at the expected low-voltage threshold without premature shutdown.
  • Cold-start satellite acquisition after fitting: After fitting this cell and powering on for the first time, take the unit outdoors in open sky before use. The GPS performs a full cold start after a complete power interruption — first satellite fix typically takes 5 to 10 minutes. Subsequent power cycles warm-start and lock in under a minute.

RoadMate shutting off without warning at low battery

The RoadMate 2000 series uses a fuel-gauge circuit calibrated to the original cell's discharge curve. After a battery swap, that calibration is off. The unit may display two or three bars of charge, then cut off abruptly because the actual cell voltage has already dropped below the BMS cutoff threshold — roughly 3.0V — while the indicator still reads mid-range. To recalibrate, run the new battery down until the unit shuts itself off, then charge it uninterrupted to full. One full cycle is usually enough to sync the gauge.

Saved routes and POIs missing after battery replacement

The RoadMate stores certain user data — saved destinations, recent routes, and some POI categories — in battery-backed RAM. When the battery is fully removed, that RAM loses power and those records are cleared. Map data stored on internal flash is unaffected. Before pulling the old battery, export any saved locations to the included SD card or note them manually. After fitting the new cell and powering on, re-enter saved destinations through the device's address book menu.

Frequently Asked Questions

My RoadMate 2000 is taking forever to find satellites after I swapped the battery — is something wrong?

Nothing is wrong. Removing the battery clears the GPS receiver's almanac and ephemeris data, which it uses to predict satellite positions. Without that data, it has to scan the full sky from scratch — a cold start that takes 5 to 10 minutes in open sky. Take the unit outside away from buildings, leave it stationary, and let it complete that first fix. Every power cycle after that will be a warm start and lock in well under a minute.

The RoadMate shows battery bars remaining but cuts off mid-drive without any warning — what's happening?

The fuel-gauge circuit was calibrated to the discharge curve of the original cell. A new cell has a slightly different curve, so the indicator reads mid-range while actual voltage has already dropped to the 3.0V cutoff threshold. Run the new battery down until the device shuts itself off, then charge it fully without interruption. One complete discharge-charge cycle resets the gauge calibration and the low-battery warning will trigger correctly again.

Battery drains noticeably faster when I'm actively navigating compared to when the screen is off — is the new cell faulty?

The cell is working as expected. Active navigation runs the GPS receiver, the processor calculating real-time routing, and the display — often at full brightness in daylight. That combination draws significantly more current than standby with the screen dimmed or off. Reduce display brightness to the lowest usable level in daylight conditions and enable the auto-dim setting if available in the RoadMate's display menu. That single change has the largest effect on draw during active navigation.
