Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

MARES ICON HD / ICON Genius Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (44201389)
This 3.7V, 2600mAh Li-ion cell replaces the original battery in the MARES ICON HD, ICON Genius, and Genius Air dive computers. These wrist-mounted units handle depth tracking, decompression calculations, and GPS surface navigation — all of which stop working when the cell dies. Voltage and capacity match the OEM spec exactly.
- ICON HD, ICON Genius, and Genius Air compatibility: All three models share the same battery bay dimensions, connector pinout, and BMS handshake. The 44201389 and 44200755 part numbers cross-reference to the same cell — same voltage rail, same pack geometry, same communication protocol with the dive computer's charging circuit.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the ICON HD platform. The BMS accepted full charge without error flags, and the device's battery indicator tracked correctly across the discharge curve from 4.2V down to the 3.0V cutoff threshold.
- Cold-start satellite acquisition after fitting: After any full power removal, the GPS module loses its ephemeris data and performs a cold start. Power the device on outdoors with a clear sky view and allow 5–10 minutes for the first satellite fix. Subsequent warm starts will lock in under a minute once ephemeris is cached again.
Why the ICON HD battery indicator gives little warning before shutdown
The ICON HD reads battery state by sampling cell voltage, not a gas-gauge IC. A fresh cell holds voltage well through most of its discharge, then drops steeply in the final 10–15% of capacity. This means the on-screen percentage can read 20% and drop to cutoff quickly, especially under GPS-active load. After fitting a new cell, run one full charge-discharge cycle so the device calibrates its voltage-to-percentage mapping accurately. Until that cycle completes, the low-battery warning threshold may trigger later than expected.
Saved dive logs and routes disappearing after battery swap
The ICON HD stores dive logs in onboard flash memory, which is non-volatile and survives a full power loss — logs should persist after a battery swap. GPS waypoints and surface routes, however, may be held in battery-backed SRAM on some firmware versions, and a complete power interruption can wipe them. Before removing the old cell, export any saved routes via the Mares dive management software. After fitting the new cell and completing the cold-start satellite fix, re-import your waypoints from the backup file.

Frequently Asked Questions
My ICON HD shut off mid-dive with no low-battery warning — is the new battery faulty?
It's not a fault in the cell itself. The ICON HD derives battery percentage from cell voltage, and a degraded original cell holds voltage deceptively well until the final steep drop — the device never recalibrates for the new cell's curve until it completes a full cycle. With a fresh replacement, run one complete charge-to-cutoff cycle on the surface so the dive computer maps voltage to percentage correctly. After that cycle, the low-battery alert will trigger at the right threshold.
Satellite lock is taking 8 minutes after I fitted the new battery — was it faster before?
Yes, and that's expected after any full power removal. The GPS module stores ephemeris data — satellite position tables — in memory that goes cold when the battery is fully disconnected. Without that cached data, the receiver has to download fresh ephemeris from scratch, which takes 5–10 minutes outdoors with a clear sky view. Once the first fix completes and ephemeris is cached, subsequent lock times drop to under a minute. No fix needed — just let it run its cold start once.
The ICON HD battery drains noticeably faster when I'm navigating on the surface than when I'm just diving — is something wrong?
Nothing is wrong — this is the GPS receiver drawing power on top of the display load. During a dive, GPS is off and the unit runs on depth sensor and algorithm processing only. On the surface in active navigation mode, the GPS receiver, display at high brightness, and compass run simultaneously, which pulls significantly more current from the 2600mAh cell. Reduce display brightness during surface navigation and disable GPS tracking when you only need decompression data to keep the discharge rate closer to dive-mode levels.
