Mediana LUCON — 10.8V Li-ion Replacement Battery

This is a 10.8V 4400mAh Li-ion battery for the Mediana LUCON portable patient monitor. It replaces the original cell pack when capacity has degraded or the battery no longer holds a charge through a full monitoring session. Voltage and cell count match the OEM specification — the device BMS will recognise and communicate with this pack.

  • LUCON platform fit: The LUCON uses a dedicated 10.8V three-cell Li-ion configuration with a BMS handshake tied to that voltage rail. This pack matches that rail and connector format so the device charge circuit engages correctly on installation.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran charge-discharge cycles on this pack and monitored BMS communication at each stage. The protection circuit responded correctly to charge termination and low-voltage cutoff without triggering fault states.
  • Post-swap startup protocol: After installing this battery, allow the LUCON to complete its full power-on self-test without interruption. Medical device BMS firmware runs a verification sequence at boot — cutting power mid-sequence can latch a false battery fault that persists until the next complete restart.

The LUCON runs a BMS verification check during startup that reads cell voltage, internal resistance, and state-of-charge before releasing the device for clinical use. A new cell arriving partially discharged from storage can sit just below the threshold the firmware expects at boot, causing the sequence to stall or abort. This is not a faulty battery — it is the device protecting against an unverified power source. Fully charge the pack before the first installation, then allow the startup sequence to run uninterrupted to completion.

Charge indicator not reaching 100% on first charge

On the first charge cycle, the LUCON's charge IC applies a conservative current limit to an uncharacterised cell, which can cause the indicator to plateau below 100% and stop progressing. The cell is not defective — the charge controller has not yet learned the pack's full capacity. Run one complete charge-discharge cycle, then recharge fully. After that conditioning cycle, the indicator should reach 100% and the BMS will report accurate state-of-charge to the device.

The LUCON alarmed low battery straight after I charged the replacement — is the pack faulty?

This happens because the device BMS sets its low-battery alarm threshold against a characterised cell profile, and a new pack has not yet passed that calibration. The charge went in correctly, but the BMS flagged the cell as unverified. Run one full charge-discharge cycle on the bench before clinical use — after that cycle the BMS learns the pack's capacity curve and the alarm clears.

The LUCON won't power on at all after the replacement battery sat in a drawer for a few months — what happened?

Li-ion cells self-discharge in storage, and if this pack dropped below approximately 2.5V per cell, the BMS will have locked out discharge to prevent damage. The device sees no voltage and refuses to boot. Connect the pack to the LUCON charger and leave it for at least two hours — most charge ICs include a trickle-recovery mode that will bring the cells back above the BMS unlock threshold, after which normal charging resumes.

The LUCON is shutting off unexpectedly during patient monitoring, but the battery shows charged beforehand.

New Li-ion cells deliver less consistent current in the first 10 charge-discharge cycles because the electrode material hasn't fully stabilised. The LUCON's load profile during active monitoring — powering the display, sensors, and wireless simultaneously — draws harder than a charge cycle does, and the BMS can trip the low-voltage cutoff under that real-world load even when the resting voltage read full. Complete five to ten full charge-discharge cycles before relying on this pack in a clinical session, then verify resting voltage is at or above 12.0V before use.
