The DSL-8001 shuts off unexpectedly during an examination even though the battery showed adequate charge beforehand — why?

The charge IC in the DSL-8001 applies a conservative termination voltage on an unconditioned cell, stopping the charge cycle slightly early until it has data on how the cell responds to a full charge pass. This is normal behaviour on the first cycle and does not indicate a defective cell. Complete the first charge until the indicator stops advancing, use the device normally until the low-battery warning appears, then put it on a full charge again. The second charge cycle will reach 100% once the charge IC has mapped the cell's voltage response curve.
