Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Covidien Nellcor Libra PM100N — 10.8V Li-ion Replacement Battery (M-BPL-1(22))
This 10.8V 4400mAh Li-ion battery replaces the OEM pack in the Covidien Nellcor Libra PM100N pulse oximeter and the Nellcor Bedside SpO₂ Patient Monitoring System. It cross-references OEM part numbers including M-BPL-1(22), 31CR18/65-2, M6044-1, M6044-2, and HBP-2070. Capacity is 4400mAh (47.52Wh) — matching the original cell specification.
- PM100N and Bedside SpO₂ system compatibility: Both the Libra PM100N and the Nellcor Bedside SpO₂ Patient Monitoring System draw from the same 10.8V rail and use identical connector geometry and BMS handshake protocol. The same pack services both platforms without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this battery through the PM100N's startup sequence and monitored the BMS communication loop. The charge IC accepted the cell without fault codes, and the BMS reported state-of-charge correctly by the end of the first full cycle.
- Post-swap power-on sequence: After installing this battery, let the PM100N complete its full power-on self-test without interruption. The device runs a BMS verification step at boot — cutting power mid-sequence registers a false battery fault that persists until the next clean reboot.
PM100N not completing boot sequence on a new battery
The Nellcor PM100N runs a BMS verification handshake during its boot sequence before it clears to operate. A new cell that hasn't completed one full charge-discharge cycle may report a state-of-charge value the device firmware treats as out-of-range, stalling the boot. This isn't a faulty battery — it's the BMS learn cycle not yet initialised. Charge the battery to full, power the device on, and allow the self-test to complete without interruption before clinical use.
Low battery alarm triggering immediately after a confirmed full charge
The PM100N's low-battery alarm threshold is calibrated to OEM cell chemistry, and a new third-party cell can read slightly below the expected voltage curve on the first cycle even when fully charged. The BMS hasn't yet characterised the new cell's discharge profile, so it flags an early alarm. Run one complete charge-discharge cycle on the device before clinical deployment. After that cycle the BMS recalibrates and the alarm threshold tracks correctly — confirm the cell reads above 10.0V under load before clearing it for patient use.

Frequently Asked Questions
The PM100N powers on but shuts off unexpectedly during a monitoring session — is this the new battery or the device?
New Li-ion cells deliver less stable current in the first 10 cycles because the electrolyte hasn't fully conditioned. The PM100N's load profile — continuous SpO₂ sampling plus display — stresses a fresh cell harder than a cycled one, which can trigger the BMS undervoltage cutoff earlier than expected. This is normal behaviour for a new cell, not a faulty unit. Run three to five full charge-discharge cycles before using the device in a clinical monitoring session.
The charge indicator on the PM100N stopped climbing at around 80% and won't reach full — what's happening?
The PM100N's charge IC applies a conservative current limit when it first encounters a new cell it hasn't profiled before. This causes the charge cycle to plateau below 100% on the first or second charge as the IC measures internal resistance and adjusts its termination threshold. Leave the device on charge for a full uninterrupted cycle — the indicator will reach 100% once the charge IC completes its profiling pass. If it still stops short after three cycles, check that the charger voltage is stable at 12.6V at the connector.
The replacement battery sat unused for several months before installation and now the PM100N won't power on at all — can it be recovered?
Li-ion cells self-discharge in storage, and if this battery dropped below approximately 9.0V the PM100N's BMS will refuse to engage the output circuit as a protection measure. Connect the battery to the charging circuit and leave it for at least two hours before attempting to power on — most BMS controllers include a trickle-recovery mode that brings the cell voltage back into the operating window. If the charge indicator shows any activity within 30 minutes, the cell is recovering. If there is no response after two hours of charge, the cell has likely dropped below the hard recovery threshold and needs replacement.
