Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Mindray SP5 / VP5 Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (022-000161-00)
This 7.4V 4800mAh Li-ion battery replaces the OEM pack in the Mindray SP5, VP5, BeneFusion SP5, and BeneFusion VP5 portable ultrasound systems. It fits directly against the OEM connector and BMS interface with no modification. Capacity figures are sourced from product data — 35.52Wh total energy, matching the original specification.
- SP5 / VP5 platform compatibility: These models share the same 7.4V power rail, identical battery bay dimensions, and the same BMS communication protocol. One cell pack covers all four variants because Mindray carried the same battery architecture across the BeneFusion rebranding cycle.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge, standby, and load draw on the SP5 platform. The BMS completed its handshake without fault flags, and the charge indicator tracked correctly through all charge states.
- Power-on self-test sequencing: After swapping this battery in, let the device complete its full startup self-test without interruption. The Mindray SP5 runs a BMS verification pass at boot — cutting power mid-sequence triggers a false battery fault that latches in firmware and persists until the next clean full reboot.
Why the SP5 alarms low battery immediately after a confirmed full charge
The SP5's charge IC sets a conservative acceptance threshold based on OEM cell chemistry signatures. A new replacement cell hasn't yet completed a full charge-discharge learn cycle, so the BMS reports capacity as unverified and triggers a low battery alarm even when the cell is physically at or near full charge. This isn't a fault with the cell — it's the BMS applying its safety floor before it has a reference curve to work from. Run one complete charge-to-full followed by a discharge to normal shutdown, then recharge fully. After that first cycle, the BMS recalibrates its state-of-charge model and the alarm clears.
SP5 won't power on after battery sat unused in storage
Li-ion cells self-discharge during storage. If the cell voltage drops below approximately 2.5V per cell (5.0V pack total), the SP5's BMS enters deep-discharge protection and the device will not boot — the system appears completely dead. Place the battery on a compatible external charger first, or connect the device to mains power and leave it connected for at least 30 minutes before attempting to power on. This allows the charge IC to trickle current into the pack and bring it above the BMS recovery threshold. Once pack voltage clears approximately 6.0V, the BMS re-initialises and normal charging resumes.

Frequently Asked Questions
The SP5 keeps showing a low battery warning right after I put in a freshly charged replacement — is the new battery faulty?
It isn't faulty. The SP5's BMS sets its low-battery threshold against a learned capacity curve, and a new cell has no cycle history yet — so the system can't verify state of charge and defaults to a warning state. Run one full charge followed by a normal use discharge down to automatic shutdown, then charge fully again. After that first complete cycle, the BMS builds its reference curve and the false alarm stops.
My SP5 shut off mid-scan about 20 minutes into use with a new battery installed — it hasn't done this before.
New Li-ion cells have slightly higher internal resistance in the first 5–10 cycles before the chemistry fully stabilises. The SP5 ultrasound draws a sharp load spike during image processing and probe activation — on a new, unconditioned cell this can cause a brief voltage sag that crosses the BMS undervoltage cutoff, triggering an unexpected shutdown. The fix is to complete 3–5 full charge-discharge cycles under normal use before relying on the battery during critical imaging sessions. After conditioning, the cell's internal resistance drops and the voltage sag under load stays within BMS tolerance.
The charge indicator on my SP5 won't reach 100% on the first charge with the new battery — it stops at around 90% and says charging is complete.
The SP5 charge IC applies a conservative termination limit when it hasn't yet profiled the new cell. Without a reference curve, it terminates early to avoid overcharge on an unknown chemistry signature — this is intentional protective behaviour, not a defect. Discharge the pack through normal device use to the automatic shutdown point, then charge again from empty. On the second charge cycle, the IC has a full discharge reference to work from and will charge the pack to its correct full-charge voltage of approximately 8.4V.
