Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Motorola MC17 / MC17T / MC17A — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (82-97131-01 Rev B)
This 3.7V 2200mAh Li-ion battery replaces the original pack in the Motorola MC17, MC17T, and MC17A handheld barcode scanners. These units run in retail, warehousing, and logistics environments where scan cycles and wireless radio draw run continuously across full shifts. Capacity is 8.14Wh, matching the OEM specification exactly.
- MC17 series compatibility: The MC17, MC17T, and MC17A share a common battery bay geometry, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. All three models draw from the same voltage rail for the imager, wireless radio, and processor, so one pack covers the full family.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through the MC17 cradle and verified the BMS negotiation completed without error flags. Imager trigger current and radio polling both registered within spec across the full discharge curve.
- First-shift preparation: After installing, seat the scanner in its cradle and run a full charge cycle before starting pick-and-pack. The scan trigger draws its highest inrush current when the cell is near minimum voltage — a fully charged pack prevents the BMS from tripping on that first burst.
Cradle showing a charging error on a new pack
MC17 cradles use contact-based charging and are sensitive to resistance at the dock pins. A new pack often has a thin oxidation layer on the gold contacts from storage, and the cradle interprets the elevated resistance as a fault. Wipe the battery contacts and cradle pins with a dry lint-free cloth, then reseat firmly. If the error clears within 30 seconds of reseating, the contacts were the cause — not the pack or the dock.
Scanner loses wireless connection during rapid scan bursts
The MC17 runs its imager and 802.11 radio simultaneously, and a high-frequency scan burst pulls both loads at once. If the cell voltage sags below the radio's minimum operating threshold during that combined draw, the wireless stack drops before the imager does — which looks like a connectivity problem rather than a battery problem. This is most common when the pack is below 30% charge. Keep the battery above that level during active use, or swap to a freshly charged pack before high-volume scan sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions
My MC17 scanner stopped reading barcodes right after I put in the new battery — what's wrong?
The imager needs a minimum voltage to fire the laser or LED array reliably, and a new pack shipped in a partially discharged state may sit just below that threshold. This trips a false "dead battery" state in the scanner firmware before the BMS even flags a fault. Place the scanner in its cradle and charge it fully before use — once the cell reaches 4.1–4.2V, the imager will power on normally and the read failures will stop.
My MC17 runs noticeably warm after a long scanning shift — is something wrong with the new pack?
Heat in the MC17 during extended shifts is normal — the scanner housing is compact, and the combined draw from the imager, radio, and processor has nowhere to dissipate. What matters is whether the warmth is uniform or concentrated at the battery bay. If the heat is isolated to the battery pack itself, seat it in the cradle and let it cool before the next shift. A pack that is hot to the touch at the battery bay specifically — not the whole unit — should be checked for swelling along the 70.5mm face before reuse.
The MC17 ends shifts earlier with the new battery than it did with the old one at the same charge level — why?
Scan burst frequency and wireless polling interval both affect draw more than most users expect — a shift with dense barcode reads and constant Wi-Fi association uses significantly more capacity than light use at the same state-of-charge reading. The MC17 fuel gauge also needs a few full charge-discharge cycles to calibrate to a new cell. Run three complete cradle charges down to auto-shutoff, and the charge indicator will reflect actual remaining capacity more accurately.
