Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Point Mobile PM450 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (450-BTEC)
This 3.7V Li-ion battery replaces the OEM pack in the Point Mobile PM450 handheld barcode scanner. It carries a 5200mAh (19.24Wh) capacity and fits the PM450 directly using the original connector and BMS handshake. Intended for retail, warehouse, and logistics environments where scanner downtime cuts into pick rates.
- PM450 platform fit: The PM450 uses a dedicated battery bay with a keyed connector and a BMS communication line that verifies pack identity on power-up. This replacement carries the correct cell configuration and BMS signalling to pass that check without triggering an unrecognised-pack warning on the device OS.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through repeated scan-burst sequences on the PM450 and monitored the BMS response during laser trigger inrush. The protection circuit held steady through back-to-back rapid triggers without entering overcurrent cutoff.
- First-shift preparation: After installing, seat the scanner in its cradle and run a full charge cycle before the first pick session. Scan trigger inrush current peaks when the cell is near minimum voltage — a fully charged pack prevents false BMS trips during the first high-frequency burst of the shift.
Cradle showing charging error on a new pack
Charging docks on the PM450 pass a low-level current through the battery contacts before committing to a full charge cycle. If the dock contacts or the battery terminals have oxidation or debris, contact resistance climbs enough to throw a charging fault. This is not a pack failure — it is a contact issue. Wipe the gold contacts on both the battery and the cradle with a dry lint-free cloth, reseat the pack firmly, and check that the dock indicator switches to charging within 10 seconds of insertion.
Scanner losing wireless connection during rapid scan bursts
The PM450 draws from the same cell for both the wireless radio and the scan trigger. During a rapid burst sequence, the combined inrush from the imager and the active radio polling can produce a short voltage sag on the battery output rail. If the cell is already below 3.5V, the BMS may interpret that sag as an unsafe drop and throttle output, briefly starving the radio before the scanner recovers. Running the shift with a fully charged pack keeps the resting voltage high enough that combined draw stays within the BMS headroom. If dropouts persist with a charged pack, check that the PM450 firmware is current — some early builds had aggressive radio power-save logic that compounded the problem.

Frequently Asked Questions
My PM450 stopped reading barcodes right after I put in the new battery — is the scanner broken?
The imager on the PM450 needs a minimum voltage to fire reliably, and a freshly installed replacement pack that has self-discharged in storage can sit below that threshold. Put the scanner in its cradle and charge the new battery fully before attempting any scans. We saw the same behaviour on the bench — the unit refused to trigger the imager consistently until the cell was above 3.6V. After a full charge cycle the read rate returned to normal.
The PM450 feels noticeably warm after a full shift — is the battery faulty?
Warmth after a sustained shift is normal on the PM450 because the housing has limited ventilation and the combined draw from continuous scanning and active wireless polling generates heat inside the enclosed body. The battery itself runs warmer under that combined load than it would on a lighter-duty device. It becomes a concern if the pack is hot to the touch immediately after removal or if the device shuts down mid-shift. If either of those happens, check that the battery contacts are clean and that the pack is seating fully — poor contact forces higher resistance at the terminal, which adds heat.
The replacement battery doesn't seem to last as long as my old original — what's causing that?
Scan burst frequency and wireless polling interval are the two biggest variables on the PM450, and both draw harder than most users expect. A warehouse running 2D matrix codes at close range triggers longer imager dwell times than standard 1D barcodes, which increases per-scan draw. Check the PM450 wireless settings — if the polling interval is set to aggressive (under 50ms), dropping it to 100ms reduces the background radio draw noticeably without affecting scan response. Also confirm the new pack completed at least one full charge cycle in the cradle before field use, as a partial first charge gives a misleadingly low baseline capacity reading on the device status bar.
