Fits Motorola MC21, MC2100, and MC2180 scanners; replaces OEM part 82-105612-01.
3.7V, 1200mAh lithium-polymer cell delivers 4.44Wh for full-shift scanning and wireless data sync.
Connector seats flush into the battery slot with a single locking tab on the right side.
We ran load cycles on a MC2100 cradle; BMS accepted the pack without fault codes after seating.
Place the scanner in its cradle for one full charge cycle before heavy use—scan trigger inrush current peaks when the cell sits near minimum and can trip the BMS on first shift otherwise.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Motorola MC2100 / MC2180 — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (82-105612-01)

This 3.7V, 1200mAh lithium-polymer cell replaces the OEM pack in Motorola MC21, MC2100, and MC2180 handheld barcode scanners. These units are standard in retail and warehouse pick-and-pack operations. Cross-references cover OEM part numbers 82-105612-01, BTRY-MC21EAB0E, and 82-150612-01.

  • MC21 series fit: The MC21, MC2100, and MC2180 share the same battery bay geometry, 3.7V power rail, and BMS handshake protocol. One cell fits all three variants without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack in an MC2180 cradle and on-device. The BMS cycled correctly through charge and discharge, and the scanner firmware recognised the cell without prompting an error state.
  • First-shift cradle protocol: After installing, seat the scanner in its cradle for a full charge cycle before the first pick shift. Scan trigger inrush current peaks when the cell is near minimum charge — a pre-charged pack prevents false BMS trips when the first shift starts heavy.

Cradle showing a charging error on a new pack

A charging error on a freshly installed cell almost always points to contact resistance at the dock, not a fault in the battery itself. Warehouse dust and oxidation build up on the gold contact pads on the base of the scanner and inside the cradle cup. Wipe both sets of contacts with a dry lint-free cloth, reseat the scanner firmly, and the cradle should recognise the pack within 10 seconds. If the error persists, check the cradle contact pins for bending — they need to sit flush to maintain the handshake voltage above 3.0V.

Scanner losing wireless connection during rapid scan bursts

The MC2100 and MC2180 draw simultaneously from the radio module and the scan trigger during a burst sequence. On a degraded or low-charge cell, this combined inrush causes a voltage sag that trips the BMS and briefly drops the wireless link. The scanner may show a disconnected icon or miss ACKs back to the host system. Charge the replacement pack fully before field use — a cell starting above 3.6V handles the combined draw without sagging below the BMS cutoff threshold.

Frequently Asked Questions

My MC2180 stops reading barcodes right after I swap in the new battery — is the laser broken?

The imager and laser in the MC21 series require stable voltage from the first trigger pull. A new pack shipped at partial state of charge can sit just below the threshold the scanner needs to fire the scan engine reliably. Seat the scanner in its cradle and charge it fully before use — once the cell is above 3.6V, the scan engine fires consistently on every trigger pull.

The cradle shows a blinking amber light and won't charge the new pack — what's wrong?

Blinking amber on the MC21 cradle typically means the dock cannot read the battery contacts cleanly. Dust and oxidation on the contact pads break the low-voltage handshake the cradle uses to identify and begin charging the pack. Wipe the contact pads on the base of the scanner and the pins inside the cradle cup with a dry lint-free cloth, then reseat firmly. The light should switch to solid amber within 10 seconds, confirming the charge cycle has started.

The scanner runs noticeably warm after a few hours of continuous scanning — is the battery faulty?

Heat during extended shifts is normal on the MC2100 and MC2180 because the housing encloses both the wireless radio and the scan engine with minimal airflow. The battery itself contributes a small amount of heat during sustained discharge, but the combined load of continuous scanning and active wireless polling is the main source. If the housing feels hot to the touch rather than warm, check that the scanner is not spending the entire shift below 20% charge — sustained low-voltage draw generates more heat than mid-range operation. A fully charged pack at the start of each shift keeps discharge current lower throughout.
