Replaces Motorola JG30 battery for Moto G7 XT1962-1, XT1962-4, and XT1962-5 smartphones.
Rated 3.85V nominal at 2900mAh capacity, delivering 11.17Wh total energy to power processor, modem, and display.
Lithium-polymer cell connects via single-pin micro contact; slides into battery slot with slight downward pressure until latch seats.
We bench-tested the JG30 against a stock Moto G7 pack — BMS accepted the charge handshake on first insertion without fault codes, fuel gauge IC read initial capacity at 100%.
On first use after installation, disable fast charging for one complete discharge-charge cycle so the coulomb counter recalibrates against the new cell's discharge curve before USB-PD pushes current into an uncalibrated fuel gauge.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Motorola Moto G7 / XT1962 Series — 3.85V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (JG30)

This is a 3.85V, 2900mAh Li-Polymer replacement battery for the Motorola Moto G7. It fits the XT1962-1, XT1962-4, XT1962-5, and related XT1962 variants. Capacity is 11.17Wh, matching the original JG30 specification.

  • XT1962 variant coverage: The XT1962 lineup shares a common battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS handshake across regional variants. One cell fits all listed models without hardware modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through a full charge cycle on an XT1962-4. The charge IC accepted the BMS handshake without errors, and current delivery stepped down correctly at the top-of-charge threshold.
  • Fuel gauge recalibration on first use: After installation, disable fast charging and run one complete discharge-to-charge cycle at standard rate. This lets the fuel gauge IC map the new cell's discharge curve before high-current charging pushes current into an uncalibrated state.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the Moto G7 after a cell swap

The Moto G7's fuel gauge IC retains the discharge curve of the old, degraded cell after a swap. When the new cell hits a voltage point the IC associates with near-empty on the old curve, it triggers an emergency shutdown — even though the cell still has usable charge. The fix is one full discharge-to-shutdown followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100%. After that cycle, the coulomb counter resets against the new cell's actual curve and the premature shutdowns stop.

USB-PD fast charge not recognised on first cycle after battery replacement

On the first charge after a cell swap, the Moto G7 may fall back to standard 5V charging instead of engaging fast charge. The charge IC performs a BMS negotiation at power-on — if the new cell's state-of-charge registers outside the expected window, the IC defaults to a conservative charge profile. Complete one full standard-rate charge cycle first. Fast charge will re-engage on subsequent cycles once the IC confirms cell health from the initial charge data.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Moto G7 is warm near the back panel while charging with the new battery — is something wrong?

A new Li-Polymer cell has slightly higher internal impedance than a broken-in cell, which generates more heat during the first few charge cycles as the charge IC pushes current through it. This typically normalises by the third or fourth cycle. If the phone still runs hot after five full cycles, check that the charge IC isn't stuck in a fast-charge loop — drop to a standard 5W charger for one cycle and monitor temperature.

The battery percentage jumps around erratically — it shows 45%, then suddenly reads 62%, then drops to 30%.

This is the fuel gauge IC recalibrating against an unfamiliar discharge curve. The IC's coulomb counter was calibrated to the old cell and hasn't yet built an accurate model of the new one. Run two uninterrupted full discharge-to-charge cycles — no top-up charges, no pulling the phone off charge early. After those cycles, the IC has enough data to track state-of-charge accurately and the percentage jumps will stop.

The phone won't power on at all after the replacement battery sat in a drawer for a few months before installation.

If a Li-Polymer cell discharges below approximately 2.5V in storage, the BMS locks out to prevent charging a potentially unsafe cell — the phone will show no sign of life. Connect it to a known-good charger and leave it for 20–30 minutes without pressing any buttons. The charge IC applies a trickle current to bring the cell above the BMS lockout threshold before switching to normal charge mode. Once the screen shows a charging indicator, the BMS has cleared and normal operation will resume.
