Fits Motorola Photon 4G, MB855, MB835 — replaces OEM battery HF5X and SNN5890A.
3.7V, 1500mAh lithium-ion cell delivers sustained voltage under modem and screen load.
Connector seats flush into the battery cavity with no adapter — original locking tab engages.
We bench-tested this cell against the Photon 4G fuel gauge IC; BMS accepted charge without voltage lockout.
On first use after installation, run one complete discharge-charge cycle without fast charging to let the fuel gauge recalibrate against the new cell's discharge curve.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Motorola Photon 4G / MB855 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (HF5X / SNN5890A)

This is a 3.7V, 1500mAh Li-ion battery for the Motorola Photon 4G (MB855), MB835, and Defy Mini smartphones. It replaces OEM part numbers HF5X and SNN5890A. The cell slots into the original battery compartment using the same connector and contact layout as the factory unit.

  • MB855, MB835, and Defy Mini compatibility: These models share the same battery bay dimensions, 3.7V nominal voltage rail, and three-contact interface. One cell fits all three without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on an MB855 unit. The BMS accepted the charge handshake immediately, and protection circuitry tripped correctly at low-voltage cutoff — no runaway, no thermal event.
  • Fuel gauge recalibration on first install: On first use after installation, disable fast charging and run one full discharge-to-charge cycle. The Photon 4G's fuel gauge IC calibrates its coulomb counter against the cell's actual discharge curve. Skipping this step causes the OS to misread state of charge from the first boot.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the Photon 4G after a cell swap

This happens because the phone's fuel gauge IC still holds the discharge curve from the old, degraded cell. When load spikes — LTE modem, screen backlight, GPS — the new cell's voltage momentarily dips below the threshold the OS mapped to 20–30%. The phone reads that as critically low and cuts power. One full discharge-charge cycle forces the coulomb counter to remap against the new cell's actual voltage curve. After that cycle, the shutdowns stop.

Phone reports wrong battery percentage after fitting the replacement cell

The Photon 4G's fuel gauge IC stores a learned model of the old cell's impedance and capacity. A new cell has different internal resistance, so the stored model is wrong from the first boot. The OS percentage reading will jump or plateau at odd numbers until the counter recalibrates. Charge to 100%, let the phone discharge fully until it powers off, then charge back to 100% uninterrupted — one complete cycle resets the gauge to the new cell's actual curve.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Photon 4G keeps shutting off at around 25% after I put in the new battery — is the replacement faulty?

The cell is not faulty. The phone's fuel gauge IC still uses the discharge model it built for the old battery, and the new cell's voltage dips below a stale low-voltage threshold under modem or screen load. Run one full cycle — drain the phone until it powers off, then charge to 100% without interruption. After that, the coulomb counter remaps to the new cell and the early shutdowns stop.

The battery percentage is jumping around erratically on my MB855 since I replaced the battery — what's causing it?

The fuel gauge IC on the MB855 calculates state of charge using a stored impedance model tied to the original cell. A new cell has lower internal resistance, so the stored model produces inaccurate readings. The gauge corrects itself after one full uninterrupted discharge-charge cycle. Do not top up mid-cycle — let the phone run flat, then charge straight to 100%.

The Photon 4G feels warm near the battery during the first charge with the new cell — should I stop?

Mild warmth on the first charge is normal. A new high-impedance cell draws charge current less efficiently than a broken-in cell, so the charge IC runs slightly hotter while it pushes current through higher initial internal resistance. If the phone becomes hot to the touch or the charge stops and resumes repeatedly, remove the battery and check for a swollen cell. Gentle warmth that fades after the first full cycle is not a defect.
