Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Sprint Photon — 3.7V Li-ion 1500mAh Replacement Battery

This 3.7V 1500mAh Li-ion cell is a direct swap for the Sprint Photon smartphone battery. It fits the Photon's internal battery bay and connects to the device's charge and fuel gauge circuitry. Capacity is rated at 1500mAh (5.55Wh) — that figure comes from the cell specification, not an estimate.

  • Sprint Photon compatibility: The Photon uses a flat Li-ion cell with a three-pin connector carrying power, ground, and a thermistor line for thermal monitoring. This cell matches that pinout and the 60.50 × 42.00 × 4.50mm bay dimensions exactly.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran full charge and discharge cycles on the Photon platform. The BMS accepted the cell without fault flags, and the charge IC stepped through CC/CV phases cleanly from a depleted state.
  • Fuel gauge recalibration on first install: On first use after installation, disable fast charging and run one complete discharge-charge cycle. This allows the fuel gauge IC to recalibrate its coulomb counter against the new cell's actual discharge curve before high-current charging begins.

Why the Photon reports wrong battery percentage after a cell swap

The Photon's fuel gauge IC stores a learned discharge curve from the original cell. When a new cell goes in, the IC still references that old curve. The percentage reading drifts because the coulomb counter is measuring against data that no longer matches the new cell's characteristics. One full discharge to auto-off followed by a complete charge cycle resets the learned curve and brings the percentage display back in line.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the replacement cell

This happens when the cell voltage drops sharply under combined modem and screen load — a voltage cliff the fuel gauge didn't predict because it hadn't finished recalibrating. The Photon's modem radio draws a burst of current that a freshly installed, uncalibrated cell can't sustain at that state of charge, triggering an undervoltage shutdown. The fix is the same recalibration cycle: one full drain to zero, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. After that cycle, the fuel gauge maps the cliff accurately and the OS receives correct cutoff warnings before the shutdown point.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Photon powers on but shuts off the moment I open an app or make a call — is the new battery faulty?

This is a voltage cliff issue, not a faulty cell. Under modem or GPU load, current draw spikes and the uncalibrated fuel gauge IC can't predict when cell voltage will drop below the safe threshold. The phone cuts out early because the BMS sees an undervoltage event it didn't anticipate. Run one full discharge to auto-off, then charge uninterrupted to 100% — after that cycle the coulomb counter maps the new cell's curve and the shutdowns stop.

After fitting the replacement battery, the Photon won't power on at all — it just shows a red light or nothing.

If the cell sat in storage for an extended period, its voltage may have dropped below 2.5V per cell, triggering BMS lockout to prevent a dangerous charge into a deeply discharged lithium cell. Plug the phone into a wall charger — not a PC port — and leave it undisturbed for 20–30 minutes. The charge IC will apply a low-current trickle to bring the cell above the 3.0V recovery threshold before resuming normal charging. If the screen remains blank after 30 minutes, try a second known-good wall charger to rule out a current-limited port.

The battery percentage on the Photon jumps around — it shows 45%, then suddenly 72%, then drops to 30%.

The fuel gauge IC is recalibrating against the new cell and its stored discharge map no longer matches this cell's actual voltage-versus-capacity curve. Erratic percentage jumps are the gauge correcting itself mid-read. Complete one uninterrupted full discharge — let the phone reach auto-off — then charge straight to 100% without unplugging. That single cycle gives the coulomb counter enough data to lock onto the new cell's curve and the percentage display stabilises.
