Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Navman Otanium 100 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (800-332-2436)

This is a 3.7V 5600mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the Navman Otanium 100 portable GPS navigator. It matches OEM part number 800-332-2436 and fits directly into the Otanium 100 housing. Capacity is rated at 20.72Wh from the factory spec.

  • Otanium 100 fit: The Otanium 100 runs on a single-cell 3.7V Li-ion pack with a specific connector and physical envelope — 209.10 × 34.40 × 34.40mm. This cell matches those dimensions and the battery management handshake the unit expects on power-up.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the Otanium 100 platform and confirmed the BMS reported full charge correctly, with no false low-battery flags at any point in the discharge curve.
  • Cold-start acquisition after fitting: After fitting this cell, power the unit on outdoors and let it run until it acquires a satellite fix before driving. The GPS performs a full cold start after any complete power interruption — first fix after a swap typically takes 5–10 minutes. Subsequent warm starts are under a minute.

GPS accuracy reducing at low charge on the Otanium 100

As battery voltage drops toward the lower end of the discharge curve, some GPS units step down receiver sensitivity to conserve power. On the Otanium 100, this can show up as slower position updates or increased positional drift during active navigation. The GPS receiver is one of the highest-draw components in the unit — it competes with the backlit display for whatever charge remains. Keeping the battery above 3.5V under load is the practical threshold where receiver performance stays consistent.

Otanium 100 shutting off without warning before the low-battery indicator appears

This happens when the device's low-battery indicator threshold is not calibrated to the actual voltage curve of the new cell. The unit cuts off at the hardware protection floor before the software warning triggers visually. Running one full charge-to-cutoff cycle recalibrates the threshold. After that cycle, the low-battery warning should appear at least a few minutes before shutdown at 3.4–3.5V.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Navman Otanium 100 lost all my saved routes after I swapped the battery — is that normal?

Yes. The Otanium 100 stores some route and POI data in RAM that is backed by the battery. When the battery is fully removed, that memory loses power and the data clears. Routes stored on an SD card or synced to a PC are unaffected — only data held in volatile memory is lost. Before your next swap, export routes to an SD card or back them up via the Navman software first.

After fitting the new battery, my Otanium 100 is taking much longer to find satellites than it used to — what's happening?

A full power interruption forces the GPS receiver into a cold start — it has lost its last known position, almanac data, and satellite ephemeris. That cold start can take 5–10 minutes outdoors with a clear sky view. This is not a fault with the battery or the unit. Stand outside with the device powered on and stationary; once it completes the first fix, subsequent starts will drop back under a minute.

My Otanium 100 battery drains noticeably faster when I'm actively navigating compared to when it's sitting idle — why?

Active navigation runs the GPS receiver and the display simultaneously at sustained load. The receiver alone draws significantly more current than standby mode, and if screen brightness is at maximum, the two together pull the cell down faster than either would alone. Reducing display brightness during navigation is the most effective single step to slow discharge. Mounting the unit near an in-car USB charger during long drives is the practical fix for extended use.
