Nokia Lumia 630 Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BL-5H)

This is a 3.7V, 1650mAh (6.11Wh) Li-ion cell replacing the OEM BL-5H battery. It fits the Nokia Lumia 630, 635, 636, and 638 smartphones. The BL-5H connector and cell dimensions match the original bay — 78.50 x 37.75 x 5.20mm.

• Lumia 630 / 635 / 636 / 638 compatibility: All four models share the same BL-5H form factor, voltage rail, and connector pin-out. The BMS handshake is identical across the series, so one cell covers the full platform.
• Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell on a Lumia 635 unit. The BMS accepted charge from first insertion, and the protection circuit tripped correctly at the low-voltage cutoff threshold during discharge stress testing.
• Fuel gauge recalibration on first cycle: After fitting this cell, disable fast charging and run one full discharge down to automatic shutdown, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. This gives the Lumia's fuel gauge IC a clean reference curve against the new cell before any high-current charging session.

Why the Lumia 630 shuts down suddenly at 20–30% after a cell swap

The Lumia 630 uses a coulomb counter that was calibrated to the discharge curve of the original cell. A new cell with a slightly different voltage-versus-capacity curve can cause the OS to misread remaining charge. When the modem fires up for a call or the screen hits full brightness, the actual cell voltage drops below the shutdown threshold before the OS expected it. One full discharge-charge cycle on the new cell resets the fuel gauge IC's reference points and stops premature cutoff.

Phone not powering on after the BL-5H sat in storage

Li-ion cells self-discharge in storage. If the BL-5H dropped below approximately 2.5V per cell, the BMS enters lockout mode and blocks current flow to protect the cell from damage. The phone will show no response — no charging animation, no boot. Connect to a wall charger rather than a PC port, which supplies a steady 5V at higher current. Leave it for 20–30 minutes without interruption; the BMS needs a sustained trickle above the lockout threshold before it re-enables the charge path. Once the screen shows a charging indicator, the BMS has re-initialised.
